The Fungus Among Us

Different Strokes for Different Folks...

About Me

Original art concept by visual artist Molly McGuire of the LA band The Spores, Jeffrey Liles of Cottonmouth, Texas and Dallas photographer Hal Samples. The title "The Fungus Among Us" is based on Liles' idea for a TV pilot featuring all of the various puppets, robots and fictional characters who appear in The Spores live show. The premise is that all of these characters are patients at a rehab facility - each with their own specific addictive affliction - and the three members of The Spores are all employees there. (The Spores = the "Fungus" - "Us" = the puppets themselves.)Imagine "Ren and Stimpy" or "Sesame Street" crossed with "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest", with Molly as a Nurse Ratchet character; Stunbunny (Greg) as an orderly who facilitates all of the puppets keeping up their individual addictions; Eric as a doctor who leads the daily morning group therapy meetings; Hal Samples as an undercover news reporter/photographer who is trying to expose all of the abuse at the facility after hours (the orange goat's head is his cover) and Jeffrey Liles is a TV writer (currently on strike) who isn't sure if this is all a reoccurring dream or his new reality show. With a little luck, the soundtrack will feature music by: The Spores, Ween, Gorillaz, Fischerspooner, MF Doom, The Toadies, Sparklehorse, Corn Mo, Ol' Dirty Bastard, Devo, Melt Banana, Frank Zappa, Slayer, Wesley Willis, Dinosaur Jr., Foghat, Decadent Dub Team, Bob Seger ("Night Moves" should be the theme song), DJ Spooky, James Hall, Yes, Daniel Johnston, System of a Down and Cottonmouth, Texas.
