NO WEAK BEATS

About Me

DDT was formed in 1986 by Jeffrey Liles, David Williams and Paul Quigg in the Deep Ellum area of downtown Dallas. Their first single "Six Gun" was included on the "Sound of Deep Ellum" compilation album which was released by Island Records in 1987. It was then remixed later that year by NWA's Dr. Dre for the soundtrack to the Dennis Hopper-directed LA gang film "Colors". Quigg and Williams each left the group six months apart from one another and started their own projects. They were replaced by KNON's DJ EZ Eddie D and DJ J-son Wolford. In the summer of 1990 DDT co-produced "30 Cops or More" and "Seven DeeJays" for the "Edutainment" album by Boogie Down Productions, and also released a 7" single of their own called "Meltdown". Two years later DDT added three more MCs - Da' Jay, Ty Macklin and MYK- and then released a 12" single on Los Angeles-based indie Triple X Records called "Makin' Funky Money" b/w "Give Up Tha Gold". These songs were then remixed by fellow Dallas abstract hip-hop artist MC 900 Ft Jesus. In 1995 Liles began an ongoing music-driven spoken word project called "Cottonmouth, Texas" with backing music provided by a new version of DDT - including Kenny Withrow (New Bohemians, Everlast) on guitar, Dave Monsey (MC 900 Ft Jesus, Edie Brickell, Fiona Apple) on bass guitar, Mike Jerome (John Cale, Course of Empire, Pleasure Club) on drums, Zac Baird (Billygoat, Korn, Everlast) ..boards, Liles on turntables and found audio, and producer/engineer David Castell on the mixing console. Cottonmouth, Texas released "Anti-Social Butterfly" on Virgin Records in the summer of 1997 and then participated in that summer's Lollapalooza Tour. Cm, Tx also recently participated in the first half of the Warped Tour 2007. New album featuring Stunbunny from The Spores is coming this fall.Profile edited with CricketSoda's Myspace Editor

Not that we really sound like any of that stuff, but we've still managed to peacefully co-exist without offending a vast majority of those trapped within the immediate proximity of one of our shows. And as far as I can remember, nobody ever threw anything at us. It's safe to say you probably won't ever hear anything like DDT or cm, tex... but by the same token, we never really sold a bunch of records or ever got played on the radio. So that would seem to make perfect sense. We've always managed to stay out of each other's way. Until now. Let's try and be friends. Or not... width="425" height="350" ..

Great article about hip-hop culture

"Fuck You, We're From Texas!"

Like a lot of bands from Dallas at the time, our t-shirts were made by Jeff Newton of Zorlac Skateboard fame. Along with Loco Gringos and Rev. Horton Heat, DDT was more than happy to spread the "Fuck...
