About Me

About Ann-Sofie & her album "Illumine My Inner Being"

Ann-Sofie Wensbo, from Malmö/Stockholm, Sweden, picked up the guitar at the age of 10 and started composing her own songs at 16. From then on she has been sharing her music and deepest thoughts as a singer/songwriter with her audience.
Since she was 17 she has found inspiration in the Bahá’í Faith (www.bahai.org) and as a token of this she has put music to sacred Bahá’í Writings ever since. She has released her album “Illumine My Inner Being” on her own label in 2006 with lyrics from the Bahá’í Writings put to music and performed by herself. This is a collection of songs that have been sung and enjoyed around the world long before their release on CD.
The record is calm and serene. It can serve as a great source of inspiration, reflection and meditation. With her simple and beautiful melodies sung to acoustic guitar, Ann-Sofie’s voice reaches in and touches souls. It’s personal, honest and straight to the heart. By her side she has Maria Andersson, who with her warm and gentle voice accompanies Ann-Sofie as if the two were one.
More about Ann-Sofie
At the age of 19, Ann-Sofie was told that both her voice and guitar playing were reminiscent of an early Joni Mitchell (on the "Blue" album). Among people who have more recently heard Ann-Sofie sing she has been called ‘the Swedish Eva Cassidy.’ Her songs are generally guitar and voice based with vocal harmonies, mostly acoustic, but occasionally arranged for larger settings of instruments.
Today Ann-Sofie performs mostly original material, alone or in different musical constellations. Since her early teenage years she has also been a guitarist and backup singer in both rock and funk bands, and a big band jazz guitarist. During her university studies in Växjö, Sweden, Ann-Sofie fronted the a capella quintet PHEAL, that performed her own compositions and arrangements as well as covers in the group's own unique style.
During the years 2000-2005 she studied music pedagogy in the Teacher Education Program at the Royal College of Music, Stockholm, with her specialization in musical movement and dance. Ann-Sofie's deep interest for cultural music and dances and cultural encounters naturally influences also her pedagogical profile, and she is currently doing research on the role of music in the shaping of identity in a multicultural context.
Ann-Sofie has recently become a member of the Swedish Playback Theater company “Teater X” (www.teaterx.se), where she is working as a musician. This is a very exciting form of improvisational theater where the stories of the audience completely shape the performance, as the actors “play them back” to the audience.
