Pernilla Andersson, känd för sin mjukjazziga singer/songwriterstajl, förtjänar dagens lilla applåd. På nya ep:n "The big cover-up" tolkar hon fem rocklåtar. Bland annat två av mina favoriter - Hives "Walk idiot walk" och Hellacopters "Bring it on home". Men det är, chockerande nog, en Twisted Sister-cover som är allra bäst. "Don’t let me down". I hennes tolkningar av låtar ur vänskapskretsen (Soundtrack, Backyard Babies, Hives och andra storheter) backas samma rakryggade uppriktighet upp med både pondus & grace.Nöjesguiden/ Kenny Håkansson Pernilla Andersson, som bland annat producerat Svante Thuressons "Vänner"-skiva, är tillbaka med något helt annat. The Big Cover-Up är en EP med fem coverlåtar. Och det är ju inte direkt Svante Thuresson-dängor hon dammar av. Nä, bland annat får vi höra en nästintill fulländad version av The Hives Wal Idiot Walk. Och det är verkligen skitbra. Ibland kan jag känna att jag har lite svårt för kvinnliga sångerskor i genren singer/songwriter. Det blir lite mycket mes och flum. As she grew up, her musical horizon broadened. From having evolved around Chet Baker, Miles Davis & Nancy Wilson, Pernilla felt the urge to find music of her own. The first album to shook her up was Michael Jackson's ”Thriller”. Pop-music arranged by Quincy Jones. She was eleven at the time, and Mr Jones was to her a boring jazz-arranger, another one of daddy's must-listen-to-musicians”. She moved on and found two vinyl-records, Burt Bacharach's "Reach out” & ”White Album” by The Beatles”, and was lost beyond recognition! The music went straight to her heart and soon her parents found her sitting by the piano, making up songs of her own. At the age of 14, she was somewhat of a pop-nerd, bought a lot of records by The Smiths, and then became a big fan of AC/DC, Imperiet & Deep Purple. Growing up in a small town south of Sweden, she was considered a little odd at school. She was the girl with strange parents who threw a lot of parties in which jazz-music were played out loud in the middle of the night. At one occasion the neighbours complained about a naked trombone-player playing in the garden, disturbing everybody's beauty-sleep.In music-school she had trouble finding her place amongst the other students that were classically trained. She couldn't read music at all, and all the piano-playing she knew was jazz or pop piano, based on the harmonies that she had learned by listening to the music at home. Pernilla decided to become a dancer instead. This was, she found, after having applied and been accepted to the ”Ballet Academy of Gothenburg”, not the right decision. 1996 she moved to Stockholm, had her own band and started out playing on the small local scenes.Soon enough she was contracted to EMI. The Debut album ”My Journey” was released in the fall of 1999 and got splendid reviews. ”An irresistible debut” **** (Expressen) ”This 24 year olds album is an wonderful blend of singer/songwriter pop and delicate jazz- touches, with gossamer-light melodies and airy performances of rare grace.” Scandinavian MagazineThe following year Pernilla became a member in a trio containing the classical cello-player Beata Söderberg and one of Sweden's most intriguing saxophone-players, Joakim Milder. They recorded an album during three days and called it ”All Smiles”. The album was released in May 2000 and once again the reviews spoke in her/their favour. ” I need a dose of this music every day!” ++++ (Aftonbladet) She also studied in the Royal Music College of Stockholm for a while, but that suit did not fit her at all, so she left.After working hard for nearly four years Pernilla felt drained, so she decided to travel for a while. She went to India and stayed for two months. Then she went home, renegotiaded her publishing deal and started her own publishing company ”Charlie Bullet Music”. She contracted Swedish jazzsinger Svante Thuresson. In 2001 Pernilla and Svante Thuresson wrote music for his album ”Nya kickar”, which Pernilla also was asked to produce. She was the first woman to produce an established artist, on a major record-company in Sweden. The album was released in October 2002 , received great reviews and was nominated for a Grammy.Early recordings by Elton John, Carol King, Tom Waits, David Bowie & Bob Dylan, fuelled the next album "Cradlehouse". Pernilla had formed her own label ”Charlie Bullet ” and in collaboration with Bonnier Amigo Music Group, Cradlehouse was released in September 2004. She wrote and produced everything. Reviews where great and this time the album was released in Norway, Denmark, France, Spain & Taiwan. She made a trip to Japan to play on the Swedish World Exhibition in Aichi with artists like Sahara Hot-nights & The Flesh-quartet and then opened for Katie Melua on her Scandinavian tour. Apart from her own concerts, Pernilla toured Sweden as a piano-player with Thomas Di Leva during the summer. She bought a house on an Island outside of Stockholm and endulged herself to another passion of hers, fishing. During 2007 Pernilla released both Baby Blue and the EP The Big Cover Up. The last one containing rocksongs in new costumes. Pernilla has made the songs of The Hives, Twisted Sister, Backyard Babies, The Hellacopters & Soundtrack of our lives her own and the result is amazing.
