Raised on a diet of old country music, 60s pop, 70s rock and 80s new wave, Loren P. Nikkels brand of original compositions reflect early influences and many other obscure artists from various genres. Starting early, Loren discovered the benefits of multi-tracking and over the years has upgraded from a 4-track cassette recorder to a fully equipped Pro-Tools studio with all the trimmings. A full believer in DIY recording, Loren plays and records all the instruments (including: guitar, bass, drums, mandolin, tin pipe, among others) and does all his own main vocals and harmonies.
With a degree in audio engineering, Loren has filled multiple roles in the entertainment industry, including: film and television music composition, music supervision, audio editing, studio musician, and sfx editing. These various positions have not only assisted in preparing him for larger gigs, but has helped him get acquainted with the business side and honed his music skills to solidify his original, quirky sound.
Described as "Frank Zappa and Brian Wilson's baby in a clown suit listening to Bruce Haack on the moon whilst Tom Waits sips rancid whiskey from a paper cup", Loren has had many references to Syd Barrett and David Bowie, Stan Ridgeway and Mike Patton. While preferring to remain on the alternative side of things, Loren has written country and pop songs for The Chris Isaak show, and even heavy metal and dance music, to lounge flavoured ditties for other CD projects and original film/tv scores.
Lorens goal now is to complete his full-length CD with a varied target audience of those who prefer something different with a twist while retaining pop sensibilities. Radio airplay has started with small college and internet stations along with podcasts and CD compilations.
