In My Girlish Days

About Me

My name is Darla Sugar Candy. But I sing about things that ain't so sweet like heartbreak and Salty Papas....................................................... ............................. I am finger pickin' and doing a little slide on my steel guitar. Mostly tryin' to immitate the old greats til I find my own sound. Sometimes I just want to throw off my heavy steel guitar and do a little tap dance on stage....................................................... ..................................... I always try to get my friends to come up on stage with me. Smack Jones gets up in his red pants and muted trumpet... check him out on my "Loverman" track....and I always like Macthrilla to dirty up my lullabies... woooweeee............and I must add that I am so lucky to have fotos taken by the divine Ms. Anissa Bromley.............I'm planning a big show this summer but I've played at The Whiskey, Rainbow Room, Hinano's Cafe, Pig 'n Whistle, Cafe Synergy, Cre8tivity, etc and here and there... Come to a show and I'll make sure you leave with a smile!!!HERE'S AN IDEA OF THE MERMAID SHOW ON SEPTEMBER 23, 2007 SUNDAY AT THE VENICE BOARDWALK... I WILL BE SINGING AND PLAYING AS A MERMAID... COME AND SUPPORT THE MERMAIDS, THE EEL, THE FUNKY SOUL ANEMANIE AND THE SAILOR AS THEY RAISE MONEY FOR THE ROSEY FOUNDATION AND BREAST CANCER RESEARCH...

Sounds Like: I would love to sound like Billie Holiday, Dinah Washington, Memphis Minnie, and Ma Rainey... I'm still finding my style... but I'm falling in love with Ragtime sounds and playing with muted trumpets and saxophones... I am in love with the "classic" blues sound from the early 1920's..
