About Me

"...THE ONLY PLAUSIBLE EXPLANATION IS DEMONIC POSSESSION...THAT OLD FELLOW AT THE CROSSROADS CLEARLY OWNS HIS SOUL"--VICTORY REVIEW MAGAZINE, APRIL 2007
Dirk has been performing acoustic blues since the turn of the century (2000, not 1900!). Enamored by the raw emotion of the Delta and Piedmont blues traditions and the joyful jug band and piano boogie blues, he cut his teeth in and around Olympia, WA, playing bass & harmonica for bluesman Daniel ‘Mudcat’ McKinstry. He then went on to co-found and perform around the Pacific Northwest with acoustic blues band, The Mudbay Stompers. He now prefers to perform solo, singing and distilling the blues out of his guitar, harmonica, and piano at festivals, street corners, bars, boat cruises, parties, coffee houses, schools, and farmers’ markets from Seattle to San Francisco, and now to Berlin, Germany. His music has been said to “soothe the soul like a fine sippin’ whiskey.”
In addition to playing the blues, Dirk spent severaly years flatpicking bluegrass guitar around the US with the Head for the Hills Bluegrass Band. He also loves playing fiddle, and has been spotted fiddling around Berlin with his psychedelic old-time stringband, The New Prohibition Band (www.thenewprohibitionband.com). As a fiddler he also stays busy working with many diverse acts in Berlin including Cera Impala, The SongDogs, Dog, and Laura Bean & the Vagabonds.
