Mark Harris revels in musical variety. Apart from the mainstream jazz he plays in bands like the James Morrison Sextet he also plays and writes for his own modern jazz originals band Mark4, featuring some of Australia's leading improvisers, performs with Australia's most successful world music gypsy group Monsieur Camembert, tickles his musical funny bone with The Tango Saloon, plays recording sessions from pop to music theatre and classical music, …and sings opera.
When Mark graduated from the Sydney Conservatorium jazz school in 1996 he was already performing regularly in the Sydney jazz scene. He followed his jazz training with time at the opera school before commencing his Master of Music (jazz).
A period as the bassist for the Mark Isaacs Trio culminated in a recording for ABC TV series 'The Pulse' before Mark decided to stretch his wings and head overseas.
Six months in Paris working with ex-pat pianist Chris Cody and American saxophonist Steve Potts preceded a year-and-a-half stint in Japan including performances with Australian pianists Mark Isaacs and Sean Wayland.
Since returning to Australia Mark has recorded his band Mark4 (Entrée - Jazzgroove Records) to critical acclaim, toured nationally and internationally with his various projects, and continued to compose new repertoire.
