Susan Komen (left) and her sister, Nancy BrinkerNancy G. Brinker started Susan G. Komen for the Cure in 1982 in Dallas, Texas in honor of a promise she made to her sister Susan G. Komen, who died from breast cancer at the age of 36. Today, Komen for the Cure is the world’s largest and most progressive grassroots network of survivors and activists working to end breast cancer forever. Komen for the Cure is 125 Affiliates strong, located in cities and communities across the U.S., Germany, Italy and Puerto Rico. The Central Valley Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure joins all other Affiliates in the promise to end breast cancer forever by transforming how the community talks about and treats the disease and helping turn breast cancer patients into breast cancer survivors. Our promise is our mission-ending breast cancer forever by...Empowering people to take charge of their health care through awareness and early detection and, if diagnosed, to survive. Ensuring quality of care for all, regardless of race, ethnic background, language, income or insurance status. Energizing science to find the causes and cures of breast cancer-and, ultimately, to prevent breast cancer in the first place.
