The group A Filetta was created in 1978 from a deep passion for the singing and land of Corsica. Since then, the group has soared to the peak of vocal harmony. Unlimited talent, a piercing vocal sensitivity and an overwhelming emotional fervor are the trademarks of A Filetta magic. No one leaves their concerts unmoved. No wonder that the film music composer Bruno Coulais has called on them many times for fruitful collaborations (10 soundtracks). Beginning with Jacques Webers Don Juan, the group has interpreted the scores for his Himalaya, which won a Golden Cd award and a César award in 2000 for the best film score, and the BO of Akhénatons film Comme un aimant and Le Peuple Migrateur by Jacques Perrin. In 2003 they released a brilliant songs album SI DI MÈ (Virgin).

Ce projet évoque le fameux groupe "Band of Gypsys" créé par Jimi Hendrix en 1969. De nombreux artistes et groupes rock des années 70, tels que Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, les Beatles ont été directement influencés par les musiques d’Afrique, du Maghreb et particulièrement par celles des Gnawa.
Initié par Loy Ehrlich (Hadouk Trio) avec Louis Bertignac (Téléphone), Cyril Atef (M, Bumcello), Akram Sedkaoui et un jeune maâlem (maître) gnawi d'Essaouira, BAND OF GNAWA revisite quelques grands standards de Rock'n'roll des 70's (entre autres : Come Together des Beatles, Message to Love d’Hendrix, Sympathy of the Devil des Stones etc.), avec la volonté d'un véritable métissage avec les musiques gnawa dont ces groupes se sont souvent inspirés.
IN ENGLISH - This project is a tribute to the famous "Band of Gypsys" created by Jimi Hendrix in 1969. Many artists and rock bands in the 70's, as Hendrix, Led Zeppelin and others have been directly influenced by music from Africa, from Maghreb and also particularly Gnawa music. Initiated by Loy Ehrlich (Hadouk Trio) with a prestigious band : guitar Louis Bertignac (ex-Téléphone), drums Cyril Atef (Bumcello, M), lead rock vocals Akram Sedkaoui and a young Maâlem gnaoui from Essaouira Saïd Boulhimas with four gnaoua musicians-dancers as choir, Band of Gnawa revisits some of the great rock'n'roll standards of the 70's (as "Come together" The Beatles, "Who knows" Hendrix, "Sympathy for the devil" The Stones or "Four sticks" Led Zeppelin) with a strong will of a fusion, a metissage with gnawa sounds and gnawa trance. In 2007 Band of Gnawa gave two concerts "event", the first on June 21st at the Gnaoua Festival in Essaouira (Morocco) for its 10th anniversary and the other on the 27th in Paris at Le Cabaret Sauvage as an echo to the moroccan festival. GACHA EMPEGA - Manu Théron & Sam Karpienia - Marseille/France
Gacha Empega a percuté la musique occitane de plein fouet, entre 1997 et 1999. Un disque (Polyphonies marseillaises L'empreinte Digitale 1998), des tournées dans le monde entier, quelques moments d'anthologie à Marseille, le temps d'installer le mythe. Puis chacun est reparti de son côté s'occuper des projets qui le tenaillaient. Manu Théron a fondé Lo Cor de la Plana et Sam Karpienia lancé Dupain. Aujourd'hui ce sont eux qui remontent Gacha Empega en duo, en adaptant le répertoire pour deux voix, bendir et tambourin (plus quelques nouveautés), et en lui insufflant tout ce que ces années dans leurs projets respectifs ont fait mûrir, évoluer et enrichir. En joueant avec les harmonies, les rythmes, les émotions, en les tordant pour en faire des chansons nouvelles enrichies du parcours et des expériences vécues individuellement ces huit dernières années.
MONDOMIX “Les Gacha Empega sont rigolos, talentueux, et militent pour que la musique populaire reste populaire. Mais ils font ça avec finesse et sans se prendre au sérieux plus qu'il n'est besoin de le faire. "Gacha Empega" est un terme de maçonnerie, qui désigne celui qui travaille à la va-vite, un peu n'importe comment. Un ouvrier qui aurait deux mains gauches alors qu'il est droitier (le mot "Gacha" est de la famille du verbe français "gâcher" et "Empega" signifie "empéguer", "engluer"). Si leur nom a autant d'importance, c'est qu'il est révélateur de leur démarche : surtout ne pas se prendre au sérieux. Leur objectif est de sortir la musique polyphonique du ghetto culturel haut de gamme où elle commence à être enfermée, pour la rendre populaire. Ils ne veulent pas oublier qu'avant d'être chantées lors de récitals donnés dans des églises, les chansons a cappella sont avant tout des airs du patrimoine, chantés -et dansés- au cours des fêtes de gens simples.â€

Gacha Empega has hitten "occitan " music between 1997 and 1999. A record (Polyphonies marseillaises - L'empreinte Digitale 1998), international tours, some anthological instants in Marseille, just the time to create a myth.
Then each one makes it his own way : Manu Théron has created "Lo Cor de la Plana", Sam Karpieni launched "Dupain". Today they start again Gacha Empega together, adapting the titles for a duo part chant with bendir and tabourin (plus some novelties) and bringing all these years' experience they had by their own. Playing with the sounds, the rythms and their emotions, twisting them to create new tunes enlarged by their eight years of separated experience .
MONDOMIX “The Gacha Empega are funny, talentuous and they work for the folk music to stay popular. Gacha Empega is a term from the builders' world and means somebody who spoil his work, a worker with two left hands. If the name of their group is so much important that's because it shows their own philosophy : they do not take themselves seriously. Their aim is to get the polyphonic vocal music out of the high cultural level ghetto where it starts to be locked up, to bring it back to real popular music. They want to remember that before being sung in churches during well prepared recitals, the "a cappella" songs were patrimonial tunes sung and danced during village fetes.

Sam Karpienia est le chanteur de l'excellent groupe marseillais DUPAIN qui s'est dissout à l'automne dernier et dont nous gardons un vibrant souvenir. Il présente aujourd'hui un trio explosif composé de deux mandoles électrifiées accompagnées d'un percussioniste au cajon et zarb iranien, le tout distillant une énergie très rock transcendée par des concerts d'une belle intensité où la voix de Sam Karpienia prend toute son ampleur en alternant le chant en occitan et en français.
De Kanjar'oc à Dupain en passant par Gacha Empega, Sam Karpienia a transfiguré la musique marseillaise lui insufflant une intensité poétique, lui offrant une voix unique. Gemme polie par les forces telluriques qui parcourt la Méditerranée, son chant inoubliable renvoie à l'ivresse du rebetiko comme à la fièvre flamenco ou bien sur à l'insolence joyeuse de cette nouvelle chanson Provençale dont il est un pilier. Mais l'occitan affirmé se souvient de l'Occident et l'énergie de sa musique se rapproche de celle du rock, mais d'un rock affranchi des rythmes binaires et dans lequel les riffs du luth du chaabi algérois se substituent à ceux des guitares saturées.
Cet étonnant tremplin de sons, de rythmes et d'harmonies propulse la voix du chanteur et l'aide à franchir la barrière de pudeur qui le séparait de sa langue maternelle. Il alterne la pratique de l'occitan avec l'usage du français, en extrait des mots limpides comme autant de symboles et leur offre des courbes mélodiques dont la beauté crue et sans apprêt exalte la vie à travers les thèmes du voyages, de l'aimée bienveillante, des paroles échangées ou du soleil rédempteur, Sam Karpienia décrit des expériences initiatiques éternelles où l'on reconnaît les instants magiques de nos propres existences.

IN ENGLISH : From Kanjar’oc to Gacha Empega and Dupain, Sam Karpenia has transformed the Marseille music scene, revitalising it with a poetic intensity and offering it a unique voice. His unforgettable sound, a gem polished by the elemental forces that pervade the Mediterranean, reflects the intoxicating exhilaration of the Rebetiko as much as the feverishness of flamenco and, of course, the joyous insolence of the new Provençale music of which he is a mainstay. However, this proclaimed Occitan has not forgotten the West, and the energy of his music approaches that of Rock, but a Rock that has escaped from binary rhythms, in which guitar riffs are replaced by those on the instruments of Algerian Chaabi music.
This surprising springboard of sounds, rhythms and harmonies supports and propels the voice of the singer and helps him break the barrier of modesty that has separated him from his mother tongue. He holds back on the usage of the Occitan language in favour of French, extracting from it clear words, so many symbols which he endows with melodic curves whose raw and unaffected beauty celebrate life through the themes of voyage, the benevolent loved-one, exchanged words or the redeeming sun. Sam Karpenia describes eternal initiatory experiences in which we recognise the magical moments of our own lives.
DARKO RUNDEK & CARGO ORKESTAR - Zagreb/Paris
Darko Rundek's musical career started in the beginning of the 80's as singer, then author-composer in the band Haustor in Zagreb.
Haustor was a rock band with a brass section, who were open to reggae, Croatian, South American and African folk influences, which brought out four studio-recorded albums during the 80's and which disbanded in 1990; during this time it was top of the rock scene in ex-Yugoslavia, had several hits and performed numerous concerts to thousands of spectators.
At the same time Darko Rundek gained his diploma in Directing at the Academy of Dramatic Art in Zagreb, directed several plays, radio dramas and radio documentaries for which he composed the music. He also played bass regularly for a Zagreb-based group, 'Cul de sac', who performed improvised music.
In 1991 he came to Paris and devoted himself mainly to theatre music. In 1995 a compilation and an album 'live' of Haustor was released.
In 97 Darko Rundek presented his first album under the name 'Apocalypso' with the collaboration of about twenty musicians : a true kaleidoscope of different styles, and which was widely appreciated by public and critics alike.
In 2000 U Sirokom Svijetu (In a wide world ) was released, this was a more intimate album which delved deeper into traditional folk music.
In 2002 the album 'Ruke' (Hands) was recorded in France with musicians who came together to form RUNDEK CARGO ORKESTAR and who co-wrote some of the compositions.

In the same year, Menart released the live double album Zagrebacka magla. The new album by Darko Rundek & Cargo Orkestar Mhm A-ha Oh Yeah Da-da Migration Stories and Love Songs, an original PIRANHA release from 2006, tells of the loneliness of the exile and the placelessness of the Internet, the reality of modern metropolis and the utopia of a love that transcends all borders.
