Now with their debut album Jamie Reynolds, Simon Taylor and James Righton look set to prove that they’re more than just a flash in the pan, a London media fad or an excuse to froth about ‘new rave’. The lads from Bournemouth and Stratford-upon-Avon have come good with eleven tracks that rocket by in thirty-five minutes emanating more energy than nuclear fission. Along the way, they bite chunks out of multiple unlikely musical influences, spatter their lyrics with a who’s who of cult literature, and end up with a music that’s catchy, driven and unique. It’s how debut albums should sound, a raw manifesto that will bemuse the oldsters and invigorate the fans, a window into new possibilities, a dynamic party where those who ‘get it’ dance frantically and those who don’t go back home to their Kooks CDs.M.A.N.D.Y. The M.A.N.D.Y. story began over 20 years ago when Patrick Bodmer & Phillip Jung met on a tennis court in Saarbrücken, Germany. The lifelong friends were reunited aged 25 in Frankfurt, then the hub of Germany’s flourishing house and techno scene. At Frankfurt’s Monza club they netted their first residency after DJ T heard them play at a party and noticed them on the dancefloor stamping their feet and ripping their clothes, they became close friends and M.A.N.D.Y. have held a Monza residency since 2001. The same year their friend Booka Shade moved to Frankfurt and the first result, a remix of French electronic band Galleon, went stratospheric in the charts. DJ work poured in but they couldn’t reconcile with the commercial scene and abandoned it after a few short months.Somewhat disillusioned they decided to create a label with DJ T, utilising the talent of the close friends in their circle; that label became Get Physical: In tribute to the dancefloor, in memory of their meeting and for their love of disco. Since the creation of the label, M.A.N.D.Y. have come into their own as artists and DJs. Mixing the first Get Physical label compilation in 2004 sent their sound beyond Europe and they’re now sought after remixers, working with artists as diverse as The Knife, Seelenluft, the Sugababes, Hans Peter Lindstrom and Fisherspooner. For M.A.N.D.Y. this isn’t a job and isn’t about success. It’s about partnership and friendship and a realisation that dreams can come true.HECTOR Anyone who has heard Hector play out will know that despite the ‘minimal’ tag associated with many of his gigs the music he plays can only be called one thing: House. Mixing up the genres with a nod to his influences (Carl Craig, Terry Lee Brown jr, Moodyman, The Timewriter etc) his sets always inject the party with an infectious energy that’s often missing from parties as a whole, let alone in as many places.Hector began his DJing in his native Mexico before being persuaded to come to London six years ago by some English DJ friends. Numerous trips to Ibiza followed then two years ago he landed a job in Phonica. The knowledge of his music and production gained there helped Hector take his career to the next stage and after a chance meeting with the promoters of Kubicle , he soon took up residency. Another residency at Dig Your Own Rave at The T Bar followed and now he brings his distinct take on modern house to his own night there: Sonic.www.thisisourproduct.com www.stealthattack.co.uk www.thisismyengine.com www.reroutestudio.com--------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------Web: www.thisisourproduct.com www.dontstayin.com/groups/product www.myspace.com/ourproduct www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=7718151562------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------ ---------Residents SectionMakaiMakai is a DJ, Producer & Promoter from the UK. Alongside Rez he promotes the Tech House / Breaks night, Product (www.thisisourproduct.com). Their combined talents have created a night, which is very much at the forefront of the underground club scene.Starting out in Nottingham, England, Product debuted at the legendary Bomb nightclub back in April 2005. It then took up residency at Stealth, also in Nottingham, where it still carries on today. Two years and over 40 shows later, Product goes from strength to strength with bookings ranging from M.A.N.D.Y. to James Zabiela. This has provided a springboard for Makai to hone his skills & musical style alongside some of the worlds finest DJs.It’s easy for some DJs to go on and on about their talents but Makai prefers to let his music do the talking. With a growing fan base, he has a reputation throughout the UK & Europe as a solid booking.Makai’s strong knowledge of electronic music enables him to stand out from the crowd. While many DJs follow a particular style and musical range, pigeon holing them to a genre, Makai has developed a sound that allows him to cross musical boundaries. This makes his music impossible to categorize, giving him the ability to take his audience in different directions.Utilizing the vast amount of technology available today, Makai’s sets sound original and fresh without sounding out of place.January 2008 Chart: 01.
