DJing is a dying art well thats what certain sections of the media would like us to believe. Where some DJs might feel compelled to be a parody of their own previous triumphs, there is a breed of entertainer who avoids following the rules and stereotypes laid down by others. Pete Jordan is one of this breed.
Well known in the UK breakbeat scene as the resident and promoter of the multi award winning Spectrum night, Petes musical repertoire spans much further than the nu-skool of breakbeat. Equally at home spinning a discerning brand of hip hop, funk, beats, house, leftfield, electro, broken beat, you name it, if its good hell probably play it somewhere and play it well. From the full on auditory assault of a peak time Spectrum set, to the laid back grooves of a more intimate gig, Jordans savoir-faire highlights his broad musical appreciation, something that the best performers always display.
Moving from Coventry to Nottingham in 2000 in search of somewhere that would accommodate Petes DJing intentions (without moving to London), within a month Spectrum was born. It wouldnt be long before the club night was making waves all over the UK and beyond. At a time when breakbeat was still in its infancy, Spectrum joined a small handful of other clubs across the world pushing the sound into the front room; with Pete confidently at the helm.
A year at the Beatroot Club, followed by 2 years at the legendary white caves of The Bomb, witnessed the rise and rise of Spectrum. Since Spring 2004, Spectrum has resided at Stealth in Nottingham where the night has stepped up a gear with regular 1000+ crowds, with full live capability and a sound system that looks and sounds like something from the future. Pete joins residents Hexadecimal and Krafty Kuts for a monthly session, alongside the worlds elite breaks, beats, electronica, hip hop and funk acts. In 2005 Spectrum added a monthly residency at Birminghams Custard Factory to its portfolio and 2006 saw residencies start London, Leicester and Coventry.
As busy as Pete is in the UK, this has not stopped him from venturing overseas with tours of Australia, Eastern Europe and Scandinavia to go alongside regular dates in Hungary, Spain, Czech Republic to name a few. His energy packed sets never fail to rock the crowd and further overseas trips are planned over the next 12 months. His Sound of Spectrum record label has kicked off this year with a pretty spectacular start. Every major music magazine has top rated the first couple of releases, lots of radio and DJ support, and most importantly the punters have been loving it!! On the production front, his ©live project (with studio partner Ed Whiteley) is being developed for launch later this year with a number of productions set for release as well a brand new live show.
