About Me

I was born in Phila, PA and raised in Amherst, MA. My mother gave me a camera when I was about 10 and my quest for intimacy with the world began to unfold. Somehow photography didn't seem like a viable option as a career choice at the time when, especially in that small crunchy little town centered in academia, the focus was on making sure you were educated and prepared to strike back at the world with mind power!! :)Sooooooo, I decided to be an actor. After moving to Los Angeles, I booked several commercials and print jobs for Toyota, Lexus, FedEx, Nabisco, Frito Lay, Chevrolet…then of course, because after a while all actors want to be producers, I eventually produced two documentaries which aired on NBC, featuring Nia Long and Malcolm Jamal Warner as hosts. It was then that I realized I had much more to say than, “Hi, please buy this product.” The documentaries we produced, explored the Welfare to work program and Affirmative Action. Interviewing and capturing people’s voices on film made me realize how many voices needed to be heard but never get the attention. During the filming, I also took stills with my own camera. I was particularly interested in the children and what life was like for them within the welfare system.Photography became a tool. The beauty of the children and their remaining innocence was captivating. I wanted to preserve those moments and the camera allowed me to do that. Looking through the lens, the background revealed a landscape designed for captivity but in the forefront, a child, whose heart was still free to soar. The discovery that I could share with the world a place to see itself as beautiful and interesting and intricate, began my career as a photographer. Our world is inundated with pain and suffering. My goal is to provide a deeper look into what could be ultimately healing. I seek to change angles and break technical rules, always searching for new ways to view and interpret the world, sometimes with humor, always with compassion.I have been a fine art and portrait photographer for 9 years in New York and Los Angeles.

There is nothing like cuddling up to a good book, read by dad. For those with young children, please add these to your library, if you don't already have them. The messages they contain are quite important and I have found them to offer significant contributions to a growing mind.

It is time to change how we perceive Black fathers. It is time to talk about where we'd like to be, not where we aren't. It is time to heal our children and ourselves. It is time to rearrange our dialog and talk about what is working and how to move from there--we have to see first what we want, then make it happen. If our only conversation is about the stats of absent fathers then what are we teaching our children to look forward to? There are so many Black men that are taking great care of their children. When do they count? When do they count? When do they count?
