Helping to create a future for impoverished Khmer children©

About Me

The Cambodian Children’s Trust was founded in support of the Sprouting Knowledge Orphanage in Battambang, Cambodia. SKO cares for 48 orphaned Khmer children and is desperately in need of the most basic provisions. There are no accurate estimates of the orphan population in Cambodia, but the number is in excess of 200,000. These orphans have been displaced by years of war, compounded by the insidious human destruction caused by landmines. Rampant diseases such as AIDS, together with the lack of health care resources, compounds these problems and causes the growing orphan population in Cambodia. The difficulties faced by SKO on a daily basis are numerous. The children are orphaned because of landmines, human trafficking in child labour and HIV/AIDS. SKO has only one dormitory that houses 23 of the orphans, food is an ongoing daily struggle, health care funding is non-existent to prevent diseases such as Malaria, Dengue Fever, tuberculosis etc, there are no funds for education and there are no funds for paid employment for the staff at SKO. The aim of the Trust is to create a sustainable and self-sufficient environment for the orphans. To achieve this CCT will work with sponsors to implement a program in which SKO will operate as an eco-village and will grow Biodiesel crops in Cambodia. CCT’s profits will be used to support SKO and the local Khmer employees. We will also be building new dormitories that will be completely sustainable with solar power, grey water etc. Volunteer accommodation will also be constructed to enable international volunteers to come and teach the children English and other valuable life skills. A documentary team will film the development of the project and publicise our endeavours to help attract further support. Hopefully we can enable these children achieve the basics in health and education that every child deserves. The Cambodian Children’s Trust held its inaugural fundraiser at the Mori Gallery on December 1, World Aids Day in support of SKO Orphanage. Over 80 of some of Australians leading artists generously and kindly, donated numerous art works, which were sold and auctioned. The night was a huge success! CCT generated enough funds to start supporting the orphanage and get some big ideas and plans in to motion. MyGen Profile Generator
