I am here for Friends

About Me

I'm pretty simple: I like to write poetry, read poetry, and mingle with creative people. My family is very important to me, especially since we've been living in different states/towns since the Katrina Diaspora. I'm back home in Southeast Louisiana because I don't want to be anywhere else. There IS no other place like New Orleans, and no other city can claim my heart.
Like everyone else, my book is not finished, it's a work in progress. I've learned to expect the unexpected, to adapt and overcome, to cross the threshold and not be afraid of what I'll find on the other side. There will be some adult content in my writing, so enter my blog knowing that. Add me as a friend if you like. Feel free to read my blogs, comment freely, and come back often. Opposing views are welcomed and encouraged; personal attacks are not. ~ Rhonda

You're also invited to visit my family profile, RHONDA RAINBOW . Original, huh? Can't help it. Some friends started calling me that a long, long time ago and it stuck. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ TO CONTACT ME: [email protected]

This is a cemetery on Bayou Terre Aux Boeufs, in St. Bernard Parish. Some of the oldest graves still there are from the early 1800's. We call our cemeteries "Cities of the Dead", because the graves are above ground, each looking like a little house. We do this because of the water table and seasonal flooding.

DEFEND NEW ORLEANS

Defend New Orleans is the brainchild of a cousin of Ellen DeGeneres, and he's raising awareness and money for the New Orleans area, plus providing important information about our city. There are also some neat T-shirts and a documentary you can purchase, from which half the proceeds go to New Orleans recovery.

I'd like to meet:

I'd like to meet poets, writers, artists, activists, friends...I would like to meet people who are willing to be the change they want to see...who understand that peace on earth starts with peace within yourself...that in order to have a friend, you must learn how to be a friend...that love is a verb not an ideal...that it's okay to reach for the sky, set your dreams on the mountaintop, as long as your feet remain firmly on the path...I want to meet people who understand that respect for another human being should transcend differences in sex, color, creed, ideology, ethnicity, sexual orientation, nationality, personality...etc.! Yeah...I'd like to meet people like that. Oh, and in case you're wondering: I have many male friends whom I love dearly, but only one true love, MY EDDIE. I just wanted to be clear on that! ~ Rhonda

Movies:

I guess one of my all time favorite movies is "To Kill A Mockingbird". I love the old classics. I also love the quirky ones: Memento, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Brazil, True Stories, Pulp Fiction, Dusk To Dawn, Fight Club, any movie that breaks new ground or twists your brain a little. And now and then, I just HAVE to watch a movie with a corny, happy ending, like AUGUST RUSH!

Television:

I don't have cable, so I watch a lot of PBS, but for some reason I'm crazy about that stupid show "My Name Is Earl".

Books:

Ohhh....this would take pages. I love books, and lost just about my entire library to Hurricane Katrina on August 29, 2005. So far, I've replaced "To Kill A Mockingbird"(Harper Lee) "On The Road" and "The Dharma Bums"(Jack Kerouac), "Naked Lunch"(William S. Burroughs), "Howl" (Allen Ginsberg), "The Rebel"(Albert Camus), and some poetry books by Maya Angelou. I was able to save "The Trail of Tears" (Gloria Jahoda) and "Bury My Heart At Wounded Knee" (Dee Brown), which I think should be required reading for every American. Chase Von also sent me a copy of his book "Your Last Chance To Hear The Last Panther Speak", and I've already highlighted all of my favorites from the book! Thanks, Chase!
