About Me

Get Your Own Voice Player Manage .. I am a Professional female, living in the DC area (born and raised Washingtonian!). My background is 'Southern'..and I 'Do' have that Southern Hospitality (smile). My Mom is originally from South Carolina(Estill/Hampton county); My Dad was from Memphis Tennessee, and he was a 'military man' (USN Retired) (The Montgomerys were originally from Mississippi). My Dad, the 'late' Sid Montgomery Jr, was a jazz/blues musician who used to sing and play the clarinet, saxophone and the xylophone. My Mom wasn't a singer, but she knew if someone was 'flat' or too 'sharp', when they sing. I have always sang. I started singing, as a small infant... according to my mom, I hummed and sang so much, that she used to call me "little Ms. Clara Ward"..even with a diaper full (LOL). At the age of 5, I started singing with my two brothers (Sidney III and Dwayne). We were known as 'the Montgomery Trio'..Later, our name was changed to the 'Montgomery Specials', by our Pastor, the 'late' Rev. Annie Bell Hagler of 'The New Mt Zion Christian Community Church'. We used to sing like quartet groups, accompanied by my brother, Sid, both singing and playing the guitar. Our favorite groups were the 'Swanee Quintet', The 'Pilgrim Jubilee' and the 'late' Willie Banks and the Messengers. We learned how to 'yodel' and 'squall', because of these groups!(smile) We were blessed to be on programs at the 'Radio Music Hall in DC, with fine groups, like "The Williams Brothers" and the Speight Sisters, etc.. Back in the day, Gospel radio station heads were 'the greatest of the great' DJs: Cal Hackett, Ronald Jay and the "late' Eugene "Flip' Forrest, all of 'WUST'am radio. We eventually changed our style to more like the 'Voices Supreme' of DC, accompanied by my big brother, Sid, on the piano or singing 'Acappella'. My Mom made sure that she exposed us to the best singers, choir directors. singer and, musicians around: We grew up listening to some of the 'late' C.O.G.I.C. Preachers:(ei. Both the 'late' Bishop Samuel Kelsey and Bishop Sherman Howard) and singers (ei. the late Benny Cummins of New York and the 'late' Harvey Lewis Jr.of DC, the greatest director ever!), and the greatest organist: Twinkie Clark!!. Oh yes, and who could forget about Myrna Summers, who was the great 'female' director at Refreshing Springs COGIC..She could just 'snap' her fingers, and the choir knew when to start singing!..WOW!!. The greatest drummer, in those days was "Danny McCrimmon' of 'The Temple COGIC", under Bishop Samuel Kelsey..ahh!...those were the days!! Eventually, my baby brother, the 'late' Minister Dwayne Montgomery, went on to form his group "Dwayne and Friends'..which later became know as 'DME Enterprises',which I was a part of. Every so often, The "Trio" got back together to sing at various programs. I miss my baby brother..he always encouraged me to sing more and do more lead or solos. He always said that I had 'PERFECT PITCH!"(smile) I also had the pleasure of singing with "Stellar Award Winner": 'William Becton and Friends' ('Kudos' to Pastor William and Rita Becton, who are now in NC!!)Presently, I sing with 'Mike McCoy and Voices United'. We went on to make a Cd entitled "Ready'. We won the 'Gospel Heritage'06 "New Gospel Group Competition", as well as the "Christian Hang Suite'06 Grand Slam Finale Competition" in Washington DC, winning $5,000!..."2 God B the Glory"! I love the music of Vanessa Bell Armstrong, The famous 'Clark' Family of Detroit , Kim Burrell, Smokie Norful,'the great' Darryl Coley, J Moss, the Hawkins,The Winans, Andre'Crouch, Richard Smallwood, and others. (I don't mean to leave anyone out.there's a whole lot of 'em!). I am a very 'big' fan of the 'Late, Great' Thomas Whitfield of Detroit. (these are just some of my favorite singers in the world!). I am fun, outgoing and love social gatherings, especially Christian gatherings. I am a Registered Nurse and am the Coordinator of a Federal Occupational Health Unit in South West DC. I am also a Licensed Massage Therapist in the Washington DC area. And now just a brief testimony: I've been thru some storms N my life..experienced life's hurts, both in and out of Church, but thru it all, I 'Know' that God was on my side and brought me out! My story is very similar to one of my idols, Singer/Evangelist Dorida Clark-Cole..and I can say that 'I M still here..it's by the Grace of God'. I love the Lord with all of my heart and 'I Am Not Ashamed of the Gospel of Jesus Christ'!
