About Me

Since meeting in 1988, Herb Bayley and Chris Meloche have received local, national and international praise for their work on a wide variety of innovative artistic projects. In 2002, they launched their latest sonic venture the Outward Sound Ensemble (OSE). The OSE create completely immersive experiences by transporting audiences with their highly original, organic, flowing and often otherworldly atmospheres. Explorations with dance, poetry, new media, live environments, theatre and film are a natural extension of the Ensemble's work.Cloudburst, their first CD, with British composer Martin Archer was released in 2004 on the Discus Records label. Chris Meloche's twenty year retrospective CD, Impossible Shapes, was released in 2005 to international acclaim. Swept Away an original commission for Japanese dancer/choreographer Mari Osanai received its premiere at Mile Zero Dance (Edmonton, Alberta, May 2005). Their most recent UK CD release - Thunder in a Clear Sky (Discus 2006) features the OSE in collaboration with a number of top improvising musicians from Britain. In 2006, Bayley and Meloche formed their own record label - Outward Sound & Vision. They inaugurated the new imprint with a limited edition series of five OSE releases. Windblown, Gamelan Vortex Raga Blue, Purple Gravity, Swept Away and Icarus Ascending have been made available are "mini-LP" style packages in a limited, numbered edition of 100 copies each. They are available at www.outwardsound.ca/osestore.Also in 2006, the duo performed across Northern England (Sheffield, Huddersfield, Leeds and Liverpool) in the Outward Sound International Festival. This series of concerts, arranged with Discus Records, featured duo performances as well as collaborations with some of the best improvising musicians in the UK. These included Mick Beck, Martin Archer, Nick Robinson, Charlie Collins, Chris Bywater, Philip Thomas, Paul Moore and Maria Jardardottir.More concert photos at www.chrismeloche.com/uk2006
