Born in Athens, Greece, Anna Stereopoulou embarked on her music studies at the age of six. Furthermore, she gained her BMUS Honours degree (Piano) at the LONDON COLLEGE OF MUSIC AND MEDIA and in July 2003 she graduated from TRINITY COLLEGE OF MUSIC after studying for her Postgraduate Advanced Diploma in Composition. During that academic year and after being accepted for a scholarship at TCM, she chose to specialize in the field of Music Composition for Film and TV and has also taken on the task of organizing and overseeing Audio-Visual /Multi-Media concerts. * * * Taught by musicians and artists, such as Alberto Portugheis (Piano/Argentina), Lisa Nelsen (Improvisation/Canada) and Andrew Poppy (ex-Head of Screen Music at the ‘National Film & TV School’, UK), her basic aim is to combine and unify Music with the other arts, such as the Theatre, Cinema, Poetry, Dance and Architecture. * * * In May 2002 ‘The Latecomer’, a short film (directed by Gerlind Becker) for which Anna wrote the music, took the BRONZE MEDAL at Berlin’s BUNDES FILM FESTIVAL and the short films ‘A Trip’ (2002 - dir. Howe Cheng) and ‘Leaf’ (2004 – dir. Tim Holleyman) she did the music for, were projected at the NATIONAL FILM THEATRE and the GLITCH FILM FESTIVAL (Montreal). Another Short Film (Documentary), which Anna has directed and wrote the music for, is the ‘Temple of Music’ that showcases the Architecture of Old Royal Naval College in Greenwich, London (Trinity College of Music). In July 2005, the Video Art /Animation ‘Rectis’ (dir. Spyros Mavrokefalos), for which Anna composed the music, was projected at the SYNCH FESTIVAL (Lavrion, Attica). * * * Amongst the venues where Anna presented her music is London’s HELLENIC CENTRE where she organized the concert ‘EUROPA’, Portsmouth’s GUILDHALL Concert Hall, where she played with the Royal Naval Orchestra, the GREAT HALL of the BRITISH MUSEUM, QUEEN ELIZABETH HALL Foyer (PLG) and St MARTIN-IN-THE-FIELD. She has also been invited to perform at the NATIONAL SUN YAT-SEN University (Taiwan), I.R.C.A.M (Institut de Reserche et Coordination Acoustique /Musique – Paris, France), HONOLULU SYMPHONY (Hawai), CENTRO CULTURALE DI VARESE (Italy) and BOURNEMOUTH ARTS INSTITUTE. * * * Anna Stereopoulou is also collaborating with artists from Greece, Germany, Portugal, Italy, Malta, Argentina and Taiwan. She worked for two years with the ROYAL ACADEMY of DANCE (London) and in September 2004, Anna participated at the Mayor’s THAMES FESTIVAL, performing her music with her ensemble, combining styles such as Folk, Rock, Jazz and Drum‘n’Bass. In January 2005 she was invited by the ‘Universita di Pavia’ in Italy (Professor: Luigi Zanzi) to perform at the opening concert of the Artistic Summer Season 2005 of Varese at the ‘Centro Culturale Di Monaster’ of San Gemolo. * * * Anna Stereopoulou was also commissioned to compose and perform for the Conference ‘The Language of Byzantium’, (organised by the ‘Greek Linguistic Heritage / performed by the Chamber String Orchestra FEMINARTE), which took place at the ‘Athens Concert Hall’ (MUSIC MEGARON – December 2005). In March 2006, after an invitation by the Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople Vartholomaios, Anna presented her new work at the Sismanoglion Concert Hall (Istanbul, Turkey) and in April 2006 participated at the INSPIRATIONAL ARTS FESTIVAL in Porto Bello (London). In May 2006, she presented her music project ‘A kNIGHT in MAREterraNEO’ at the PORTELLO RIVER FESTIVAL (Padova - Italy), and in July 2006 she participated at the SUMMER FESTIVAL of AMAROUSSION (Athens), with her ‘Heliconian Muses’ music-theatre event. * * * Events for 2007 have included her Concert in Istanbul (“Zografio High Schoolâ€), in the 3rd Edition of the PORTELLO RIVER FESTIVAL. She also composed the music for the AENAON Dance-Theatre, based on ‘La Leçon’ of Eug. Ionesco (Choreography of Daniel Lommel), which was presented at the MODERN THEATRE OF ATHENS in May and will be presented again at the STATE THEATRE of NORTHERN GREECE this coming November. Anna is currently working on her new work, which was commission to compose for the Astrophysics Conference that will take place at the UNIVERSITÀ DI PAVIA (Italy-November) and is dedicated to the Nobelist ILYA PRIGOGINE.
