PYTHAGORAS

Number is the within of all things.

About Me

I was born circa 580 B.C. on the island of Samos. In youth, I studied astronomy, theology, geometry under Egyptian priests, but upon return from Egypt, I found Samos had been undertaken by a dictatorship. I then traveled with my supporters to Crotona in southern Italy. Here, I've founded my own school that focuses on higher studies in mathematics, astronomy, music, metaphysics, and polydaemonistic theology. The school has made some stir in town by what some call "controversial" practices (we allow the admission of women, we have a strict daily regimen of activities, we practice non-possession by sharing unreservedly all the necessities of living). Most recognize me for my infamous theorum, but my interest in mathematics goes far beyond this: Mathematics for 'its own sake', as it were. Mathematics, philosophy, and religion are inseperable. For the study of mathematics can convert the soul from the world of the senses to the contemplation of the eternal.
