Influences: Giacomo Cuticchio was born in Palermo, in 1982, he is a composer,a pianist and the heir of one of the most strong and vital sicilian theatrical tradition.
Son and grandson of puppet-masters, his artistic training takes place among chivalrous dreams, lost and adventurously recovered minds, battles and kings regnant, passions and ethical models, inside the frame of extreme strictness and attention that is characteristic of the theatrical activity if his family.
Little Giacomo's inclination to music found very fertile ground between the sounds of the barrel-piano, that traditionally scans and comments the events of the Paladins of France, and the extraordinary and precious vocal exercise peculiar to the "Opra" and the "Cunto".
The chance encounter with Philip Glass' music and the everlasting attention to ancient music, Renaissence and Baroque, showed,to a still very young Giacomo, the congenial way for him, putting themselves as ideal foundations for a research about the roots of music, analogous, in many aspects, to the efforts of innovation of the Opra done by his father Mimmo from its basis.
Adverse to solely linguistic worries, Giacomo Cuticchio intends to reach the immediacy of emotion, looking for the most adequate forms to his purposes in structural, almost archetipical plots: Giacomo's music comes out directly of the heart of the mechanisms that rule the working of the forms.
So much attention to the aim of the music has an obvious corollary or the interest for the sound, itself and in relationship with existence, constantly fed by the living improvisation with the musical instrument.
Surely Giacomo Cuticchio's exstraordinary intuition for the sound has been influenced by the praxis of cunto whose his father Mimmo, pupil of the master-puppet and cuntista Peppino Celano, is one of the real heir: as in the cunto the word becomes song by the rhytmic distortion of the breath, setting free its musical soul, so with the same naturalness sounds become tangible in Giacomo's music.
Here we can find the origin of the young Cuticchio's love for minimalism, this last "ism" whose attention for the sound isn't a superficial observation, as some sly critics, deprived of new categories and inventiveness, would make us believe.
This is the thread that ties togheter the tradition, in which Giacomo Cuticchio was born, and the musical modernity, harmonizing the breath and the word, the sound and the composition, losing and recovering the mind by the sound of an ancient barrel piano.
According with a still possible existence.
