Gimme Shelter! was started by John and Jamie as a club for people who don't like clubs, hence the name (also in homage to Merry Clayton's ace version).
At our original nautical home of Il Bordello, which defined the term 'underground' we had some truly memorable sweaty evenings and characters. People squeezed in dancing from the bar to the door, once you were in you were in for the duration!
Moving to upstairs @ The Hatchet enabled us to add a live element to the proceedings, but keep the intimacy and vibe of the night. We now have a variety of bands and singer/song writers kicking off the proceedings at 10pm and around 11pm the dancing starts until 2am. Once a month you can catch Gimme Shelter!'s resident band 'The Transpersonals' playing sixties flavoured Psych/Garage!
After the bands John The Mod & guests spin 60's Psych & Garage, Northern Soul, Freakbeat, Punk, Rock & Roll, Tamla, Jazz and Go Go! Against a back drop of vintage vinyl and projections you will find those who know and those who have come to find out.
Gimme Shelter! truly is 'Red with Purple flashes'.
