Bare Threads

About Me

Image copyright Charles Emerson www.charlesemerson.co.uk
Bare Threads was born in August 2007 out of a love of music, djing, dancing and festivals, with the band wanting to create music that prolonged the dancing and festival spirit long after the Summer was over. Making the most of their musical education provided by years of digging in the crates (two of the group are djs) and listening to all sorts the band holed up in the studio in a rewarding collaboration.

REVIEWS:
Always lovely to get a review and we were pretty darn pleased to have our demo recordings reviewed favourably and to be featured as a band to watch for 2009! Thanks to all at Western Eye January 2009...
"Soulful and funky, Bare Threads are...refreshing...[with] their prominent bass lines, easy going riffs and sassy vocals from Joanna Bennett these guys have got it going on! Citing influences that range from MGMT to Gnarls Barkley and Beck to Band of Horses, these guys know that it's all about an open mind..."
Demo Single Review - Talk Too Much
"Talk Too Much, is an emotive and mellifluous record with calm guitar riffs and interesting percussion making this an imaginative track. The compelling harmonies from lead singer Joanna Bennett contribute beautifully to Talk Too Much...All [demo tracks] are equally chilled but at times show sparks of dynamism that will appeal to fans of similar artists like Nouvelle Vague..."
Again cheers to the Arts writers at Western Eye x
"...a blonde-bobbed and bespectacled girl-fronted foursome fusing jangle-chime winsomeness with a jaunty Brit-pop pastiche - in a good way...the band venture towards many things: fuzzy indie darlings, dreamy retro-pop schmoozers, bluesy garage rockers....they're instrumentally skilled and their bouncing, beaming lead lady's sure got a way with the crowd...
...[the] band are absolutely a good thing - likeably leftfield, friendly and fun."
Venue Magazine, January 2009
"...the lovely Bare Threads. If I were to have a soiree where everyone had to drink whiskey and wear fancy clothes and dance and the only light came from oil lamps, I think this might be what it would sound like. Or at least be on the soundtrack. "Paint A Smile" is definitely doing it for me right now, but the freshly posted "Tell You Tales" isn't too shabby either..."

"just back from the studio with three new recordings. Most promising is the rather fine 'Paint A Smile', with its St Etienne recalling pop snap"
Venue Magazine, July 2008
"Bare Threads magically mixed a bucketful of...influences. Jo... impressed me throughout with her presence"
Bristol Uploaded Session Thekla 25th June
"Extremely proficient soulful blues with funk and jazz influences. Definitely a band you can shake your... well, whatever... to. Sassy vocals and itchy-fingered bass weave in and out of choppy guitars and shuffling drums"
Bandman 2008
"Bare Threads...delighted all with their clean hustle and bustle. In fact, within the first few seconds the band had a real sharp togetherness that, among their contemporaries is somewhat rare."
Sam Bonham,Epigram
"Bare Threads are currently rising up at a stupendous pace. Two of the group are certified crate diggers and the love of good music through the years shines through with a sound that draws from the past and the present. I'm seriously expecting big things from this band."
