About Me

I am originally from Botswana but i currently reside in Boston. In 2005, I started myown production company called SaBantu Productions, which in translation means “for the people of the African Diaspora.” I won the coveted “Emerging Filmmaker Award” at the 2005 Roxbury Film Festival for her film, “Don’t tell me you love me,” which addresses the issue of domestic violence within the immigrant community. My first film, “Don’t leave me,” a short narrative on HIV/AIDS, was the official selection of the New York Shot Film Festival early 2005.In early 2007, I produced my third film, “The Day Of My Wedding,” which was the official selection of the 2007 Roxbury Film Festival in Boston and the Independent Film Festival in Florida. The film was broadcast on The Education Channel of Tampa, Florida in the summer of 2007. In August 2007, “The Day Of My Wedding” was selected for broadcast on The Best Shorts program on BETJ (Black Entertainment Television).I have made several short documentaries one of them, “An African in America,” was screened at the Pan African Sweet Mother Conference held at Harvard University early 2006. In 2006, I created, wrote and directed an international TV show, Ya Ma’Afrika. The show chronicles lives of African immigrants in America. Ya Ma’Afrika was broadcast on a satellite TV channel Telesud, September-November of 2007. Very soon i will complete a feature documentary, “Rapping for Life,” a film on African Hip Hop: focusing on its role and involvement in raising awareness about HIV. The film was shot in Botswana and Kenya. Currently, I am working on another TV series for the East African Market set to be produced early 2008.Why do I make films? It's simple! I love the power of film, the power to reach into people's emotional realms, to educate, enlighten, inspire and move them. It’s time for us to write our own history, present and future.
