City Lights

City Lights now lives on Myspace.com with you

About Me

About me. Well, I'm 54 years old, located in the heart of North Beach, San Francisco. I've got lots of books, and have seen many of you here at the store, browsing my shelves for things you won't find anywhere else. Some of you check out my web site, too, at citylights.com , and subscribe to our monthly e-newsletter so you can find out about our publications (yes, City Lights publishes books, too, and has since 1955), and our many in-store events. Click here to sign up for our monthly e-newsletter! Jack Kerouac, Allen Ginsberg, Lawrence Ferlinghetti (technically my 'dad') made this place famous, and more recently we've hosted authors such as Michelle Tea, Beth Lisick, Hubert Selby Jr. (RIP), celebrated the 10th anniversary of Bitch Magazine, and been haunted by such lovelies as Chan Marshall of Cat Power, Jonathan Richman, Tom Waits, Viggo Mortensen and others. Come by the store. You never know who'll you'll spy.
Friend Requesters! If your profile is private, please send us an email with a heads-up about yourself. There are so many spammers out there, that we've become cautious. Thanks for your patience with us!
Also, we apologize for your having to view any obnoxious spam ads in our comments. Those bastards hit us up everyday.

My Interests

The world at large and how to make it a better place. New voices from around the globe writing fiction, poetry and nonfiction. We are not interested in those lame companies using myspace profiles to advertise ring tones. You suck!

I'd like to meet:

Anyone who loves books, cares about indie presses & do it yourself zines, and appreciates an old world style with a modern, politically informed and artistic sensibility.

Music:

A divergent group here. On any given day you might hear Charles Mingus or John Coltrane, Thom Yorke, Negativeland, Paula Frazer, Gris Gris, Jonathan Richman & the Modern Lovers, The Jesus Lizard, & the Red Hot Chili Peppers. We are very much digging Honeycut now. And, AXOLOTL, always!

Movies:

Just saw Pan's Labyrinth by Guillermo Del Toro and Faye Grim (Hal Hartley's latest) and loved both.

Television:

I've heard people talking about Deadwood, the Sopranos, Prime Suspect. We adore The Daily Show and The Colbert Report. Frontlines on PBS is great. Looking forward to the new Bill Moyers show on PBS, as well. We like to unwind while watching Law & Order and Sex & the City reruns.

Books:

We're loving Noam Chomsky's Interventions, which we just published! We post our recommended reads @ citylights.com

Heroes:

Angela Davis. Bob Dylan. Lawrence Ferlinghetti. Malcolm X. Guy Debord. Rachel Corrie. Cindy Sheehan. The Pretenders. David Bowie. Howard Zinn. Noam Chomsky. Amy Goodman. Robert Fiske. Michelle Tea. Adrienne Rich. Joseph Cornell. Dorothy Allison. Subcomandante Marcos. The Zapatistas. Sam Shepard. Allen Ginsberg. Barbara Ehrenreich. Stephen Colbert. Jon Stewart. Rex Ray. Pablo Neruda. Bill Goggins RIP.
