About Me

I am your typical struggling writer. I'm in my late thirties and have spent that last three years of my life writing a novel. My novel is almost complete and I want to attempt to get published. The thing is I have no clue how to go about doing this. One of my concerns is copyrighting my work to protect my characters and story. What is the best way to do that? Once I have that done then what? What do I do with the manuscript? How does the publishing world work? Anyway if anyone can offer some advice I would really appreciate it.
My novel is a fairy tale fantasy. It's not a children's story but something geared towards the teen to adult crowd.
Often I will take a personal life experience and transform it into part of my story, for example one of the main villains was inspired by someone I know. Spooky but absolutely true.
I'm currently doing a rewrite of my novel, now at 700+ pages. As I went along the story evolved so I have to go back and make sure everything fits together. I have to say the story gets better each time I go through this process.
For me writing is a labor of love and I thoroughly enjoy it. It's my therapy and my passion.
Please post any comments or much needed advice in the forum below.
I would like to thank those of you who have offered your comments and advice I really appreciate it and please keep it coming! Jim - The Unpublished Novelist
