Pick up Azucar Moreno and Los Morenos! Blinding Mirror coming soon!

About Me

I'm the author of two novels - Azucar Moreno and Los Morenos from Strebor Books which is now an imprint of Simon & Schuster. I'm currently working on my third offering as well writing new songs and scripts for commercials. I can't sing worth a lick so I want to work with singers and producers to bring my lyrics to life.
If you are a producer or singer in search of tight lyrcs - let's talk! I can flow with all music styles from rock to soul.
Right now a film entitled "Fiesta", based on my first novel is in the works and is scheduled to begin production Summer 2007. It's a multicultural drama-comedy.
Buzz about my novel first novel Azucar Moreno:
Azucar Moreno was featured as a Juicy Pick in celebrity journalist Jawn Murray's EURweb column in March 2005.
"Shelley Halima is an author of uncommon wit and vibrantly drawn characters, a fresh voice anyone who enjoys good writing will be glad to hear." - Dwight Hobbes Mpls/St. Paul magazine, Pulse of the Twin Cities, Insight News
"Azucar Moreno drew me in with its sexy and contemporary narrative. It defies the idea of cultural segregation, and instead captures the essence of an ethnically diverse Detroit life. The twist and turns of all the relationships were a guilty pleasure. A good read." - CHRIS WEBBER, PHILADELPHIA SIXERS
"When someone writes and you really feel their words, I would have to say that person is a great writer and story teller. I really enjoyed reading this book - it made me laugh, horny and made me cry!" - KIMA, FORMERLY OF THE GROUP TOTAL
In Azucar Moreno, Halima's literary canvass is colored with warmth, power, and passion! TRACY PRICE-THOMPSON, AUTHOR OF A WOMANS WORTH AND KNOCKIN BOOTS
If Alison Anders (Gas, Food Lodging, Mi Vida Loca, Sugartown) ever decides to do romantic comedy this would be a good book to film adaptation. Shelley really has a fresh new voice and her future works are anticipated. -- THABIZ.COM

Reviews for my current novel Los Morenos
"Los Morenos is a wonderful story by Shelley Halima. Although this is the sequel to Azucar Moreno, this story is so well done that you don't have to read the first book in order to follow it. I liked the diverse background of the characters and the conversational tone in which this story is told. This novel deals with a myriad of topics such as jealousy, bisexuality, and addiction. The sex scenes detailed in this book are absolutely wild and erotic to say the least. Los Morenos is a classic coming-of-age story that will keep readers entertained to the very last page. Shelley Halima is poised and ready to take the fiction market by storm." --URBAN REVIEWS.COM
"LOS MORENOS is a fast-paced page-turner that will keep your attention from the first page to the last. It is a poignant novel about love, family, relationships, growth and maturity. The main and secondary characters are very well-developed, so much so you feel what they feel; they are unforgettable and real. I enjoyed the fact that the storyline is easy to relate to. Any family on the face of the earth has dealt with some of the issues Rosie and Nikki have in some form or fashion. The book is also filled with a few unsuspecting twists that will leave you in awe. A major plus is that if you haven't had the chance to read Azucar Moreno, you will still be able to catch on in the sequel. If you are a Shelley Halima fan, you won't be disappointed, and if you aren't, you will be after reading this book." -- ERAINA TINNIN, RAWSISTAZ REVIEWERS
"In the tradition of Waiting to Exhale and The Dirty Girls Social Club, Los Morenos tells the stories of strong and loyal women with drama and humor. Nikki and Rosie Moreno are Latina cousins raised like sisters in Detroit. When both move to Hollywoodone to act, one to modelthe women struggle to adjust. The book is animated by the lively, hip dialogue of its multicultural cast of characters. Steamy sex interludes spice up the story. In this follow-up to her first novel Azucar Moreno, Halima tackles prejudice, homophobia, addiction, and family dynamics, while weaving in enough happenin descriptions of sleek parties and Los Angeles glamour to please any chick-lit fan." --JENNA WORTHAM, GIRLFRIENDS MAGAZINE
"I have never read a book this raw and erotic in my entire life. It definitely is written in a way that keeps you interested and entertained. The character voices are very well written. I clearly see these people. The dialogue is at a perfect pitch." ---LINDA NIEVES-POWELL, WRITER, PRODUCER, DIRECTOR AND CEO OF LATINO FLAVORED PRODUCTIONS
"Shelley Halima creates an open dialogue of raw emotions- love, lust, and jealous in Los Moreno. I knew this was a great read- because a good writer knows how to stimulate your mind with a natural flow of words that draws a reader right into the story." -- NICK ALEXANDER, BOOKS AND POETRY CAFE
My books Azucar Moreno and Los Morenos are available at BarnesandNoble.com and Amazon.com as well as retail bookstores.
I also have a story in the erotic anthology Chocolate Seduction. If you'd like to purchase it in support of me, please don't. I've never received a cent for it. To all aspiring writers, please be careful of who you turn your work over to - learn from the mistakes of me and others. Too many people are pimping authors out here so do be careful.
