Current address: Somewheretown east of Holland, nr.42:-) First guitar: box with elastic bands at 3, acoustic guitar at 13(gift from aunt) started fiddling with it at 15, got serious at 17 Influenced by: Hendrix, Van Halen, Schenker, Beck, Dad and sis's pianoplaying Favourite song(and guitarsound): The wind cries Mary-HendrixHis favourite albums in 84 1) 1984-Van Halen 2) Amadeus soundtrack 3) Principle of moments-Robert Plant 4) Last in Line-Dio 5) Couldn't stand the weather-Stevie Ray Vaughan Adrian started playing guitar at age 17, inspired by the great guitarist of the late 60s/early seventies, and he soon played in a band called Mother of Pearl. He also took took piano lessons from a jazz pianist. During the 70s, he studied in art college, and worked as a session guitarist. After graduating, he played in a band called ..Teaser', releasing only 1 album, after which they broke up. In 1980 though he decided to reform Teaser, with Bert Heerink on vocals Dick ..Motorhome' Kemper on bass and Jos Zoomer on drums. They soon recorded a demo, changed their name to ..Vandenberg' and scored an international recording deal with Atco rcords. After an international hit single with ..Burning Heart', three albums: ..Vandenberg', ..Heading for a Storm' and ..Alibi' and tours with Ozzy, Michael Schenker and Kiss, Vandenberg broke up, and Adrian joined Whitesnake, playing their ..1 hit single ..Here I go again' from the band's 1987 album. He co-wrote the songs on their follow-up album ..Slip of the tongue'(released in 1989) but was unable to perform on it due to injury so guitar maestro Steve Vai played the guitar parts on that album. In the 90s, Whitesnake kept a lower profile, releasing a greatest hits record, the unplugged ..Starkers in Tokyo' and their least commercial and most bluesy album ..Restless Heart'. Adrian left Whitesnake in 1999 to spend time with his family. In 2001, he worked in a talent-soap called starmaker, as a tutor to the talents, and he setup his own publishing company. Around 2003, Vandenberg reunited, and early in 2004 they released a greatest hits album. ****TIMELINE****Vandenberg Period 1982 - 1987 Genre hard rock Editorial Most popular Dutch hard rock band ever that managed not only to top the Dutch but also the US charts. Later guitarist Adje van den Berg joins Whitesnake. Line-up Ad van den Berg guitar Bert Heerink vocals Dick Kemper bass guitar Jos Zoomer drums Other musicians Peter Struyk vocals BIOGRAPHY 1977 Adje van den Berg starts his career in the band Teaser. 1978 Teaser records its debut album, containing Free and Bad Company influenced blues rock. Characteristic for the band's sound are the vocals by Jos Veldhuizen and the catchy song material. 1981 After several changes in its line-up, the band records a demo under the name Teaser and is signed by Atlantic boss Phil Carson. 1982 Vandenberg records its debut album in April 1982 in the studio of former Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page. At its release in October the band is touted as the next big thing in hard rock. Vandenberg even scores a hit in the US with Burning Heart. 1983 Burning Heart also shoots to the top of the Dutch charts. The band tours the US supporting Ozzy Osbourne. In the UK the band supports the Michael Schenker Group. December sees the release of Vandenberg's second album, Heading For A Storm. 1984 Different Worlds is the next hit single for Vandenberg in the Netherlands. The band tours the US supporting Kiss. After that the band tours Japan. 1985 Under the supervision of Jaap Eggermont the band records its third album: Alibi. But because Phil Carson has left Atlantic the album does not get enough support of the record company. Jaap Eggermont Jaap Eggermont 1986 To make things worse, singer Bert Heerink is kicked out of the band after a Dutch Christmas tour. Initially he is replaced by Peter Struyk. But the demo's recorded with Struyk fail to impress the Americans and pressures about a change of musical direction are weighing heavily on the band. In the meantime, Adje plays as a guest musician on the new Whitesnake album called 1987. 1987 For the second time Adje van den Berg is asked by David Coverdale to join Whitesnake. Because things aren't going too well with his own band, Adje decides to jump at the opportunity. He joins the band just in time for a successful stadium tour following the band's 1987 album. Avalon 1988 Bassist Dick Kemper forms a new band called No Exqze. Jos Zoomer and Peter Struyk join the band Avalon. In 2002 Zoomer will pop up in a band called Biss. 1994 While David Coverdale is recording an album with Jimmy Page, Adje goes into the studio with Whitesnake rhythm section Tommy Aldridge and Rudy Sarzo. This results in the CD Manic Eden. The album combines Whitesnake-like song structures with Hendrix-like guitar sounds. But even before one single copy of the album has been sold, Adje returns to Whitesnake to work on new material. Bert Heerink in the meantime scores a big hit with and also releases a solo album entitled Storm. Bert Heerink 1997 - 2002 Jos Zoomer and his band Soylent Green release the album Nutrient. In 2002 he is in the band Biss. 2004 In January Dutch TV-show Single Luck features Vandenberg's big hit Burning Heart. *****EQUIPMENT**** On the Vandenberg albums it was Les Paul Heritage, 50 and 100 W Marshalls(JCM800?), standard cabs, TC Chorus/flanger for the clean sound and a wah used as parametric eq. On the third album he used a custom made lefty strat a lot. On tour he had 8 white 4x12"celestion fitted custommade cabs(by Stage Accompany).Whitesnake 87 3x Peavey VTM's. During Slip of the Tongue a Rockmaster pre-amp connected to the Classic Tube-amp as pre-amp setup. Then through a 1200 Decca Amplifier. 8x 4x12" cabinets. 1 acting as loadbox. Using Ultraverb for clean in Here I go again and Is this love.... Later he additionally used 2 Soldano's custommade for him.His Mesa Boogie combo was generally used to record basic tracks on the Vandenberg albums and for jamsessions.Lars comments: With Vandenberg and on WS' tour with Mötley Crüe (amps/effects only): 60's Gibson Les Paul Gibson LP Heritage 80 Schecter reverse strat Aria Elecord electric-acoustic 2 Marshall 1987 50w super lead 2 Marshall 2240 50w master lead (similar to JCM800) - modified with effects loop and 2 12ax7 tubes (for mid-boost and extra gain-stages) 8 Marshall 4x12" Celestion cabs. 70's Crybaby wah, Ibanez tubescreamer, Boss & Ibanez Flanger-pedals, Roland SEQ-331 Eq, Dimension D Chorus, SDE-1000 delay, home-made footswitch/rack interface. However, it sounds like he used a Boss OD-1 or SD-1 to preamp his Marshalls on "Heading for a storm" (the best guitar sound ever!!!)About the "Schecterstrat", it was just a Schecter neck and it was reshaped. I was under the impression most his effects except for the wah were not used. He used the Dimension D on Alibi tho. He used a TC chorus/flanger on the first album,I think. The extremely preciousss '60 LP was used to record but I don't think it ever went on tour with him?On the 1987 tour he used Fernandes Vandenbergs, a Fernandes custommade Strat and ESP Horizon Customs before switching to Peavey VandenbergsI know Adrian used Peavey DDL3 delay, DEP 3.2s delay, PEP4530 delay or an Addverb controlled by a RMC2000 together with the VTMs and a Rocktron HUSH IIC. 2 Peavey 412MS and 2 412M . I also believe he used a Peavey DECA 724 power amp for the wet sound. On the Monsters of Rock tour Adrian played through a Peavey Rockmaster Preamp, Peavey Classic 60 power amp (dry) and Peavey DECA 1200 for the wet sound. 40 rack units of gear, but in an interview he told that he used just a Peavey Ultraverb for effects.According to Adrian Vines, Whitesnake's guitar tech it's this: Amps Marshall 1959SLP 100Watt Super Lead Plexi Head Cabinets Marshall 1960BX Cabinet / 4x12 Guitars Fender Stratocaster American Electric Guitar Gibson Les Paul Electric Guitar Pedals Boss SD-1 Super Overdrive Dunlop Uni-Vibe / Wah Controller Pedal Racks Dunlop DCR-ISR Crybaby Rack Wah Lexicon MPX-1 Stereo Processor Marshall 9200 Dual MonoBlock Power Amp Nady 950 Wireless Unit This must have been the last Farewell setup...
