Jake Goss

Saxophonist

About Me

Born in London, Jake moved to the US at the age of four and grew up in Bethesda Maryland. He began playing saxophone at 10 and by his mid-teens was performing at various venues and events around the greater Washington DC area. In high school he was awarded the chair for Lead Alto in the Maryland All-State Big Band and received the Outstanding Soloist Award at an invitational music festival in Chicago. His Quartet also won first place at the Chantilly Tri-State Music Competition in Virginia. At 18, he returned to the UK to study at the University of Leeds and then attended the Royal Academy of Music, where he obtained an MMus. He now lives in London, working alongside a number of highly talented young musicians on the thriving jazz scene. He has also had the opportunity to perform with Stan Tracey, Gerard Presencer, Soweto Kinch, Dave Whitford, Don Weller, Spike Wells and the National Youth Jazz Orchestra. His current quartet (see members) regularly performs his original compositions that have been enthusiastically received by musicians and audiences alike. --- "Goss has put together a quartet that reflects his aesthetic admirably, both as performer and composer..."; "...a fluent, often fiery soloist..." ---Jazzreview.com, February 2008.
