About Me

The Surfrider Foundation is a grassroots, non-profit, environmental organization that works to protect our oceans, waves, and beaches. Through Conservation, Activism, Research and Education.
What makes Surfrider Foundation unique is its membership made up of surfers, swimmers, divers, bodyboarders, kayakers and beach enthusiasts from all walks of life. Surfrider Foundation members have proven to be powerful spokespeople and caretakers of the ocean environment which they treasure.
Founded in 1984, Surfrider Foundation's most important coastal environmental work is carried out by Surfrider Foundation's 60 chapters and over 50,000 members located along the East, West, Gulf, Puerto Rican, and Hawaiian coasts and has affiliations in Australia, Japan, France, and Brazil.
The Malibu Chapter represents and protects the (approximately 31 mile) coastal environment from the Los Angeles and Ventura County south to the Ballona Creek, including all beach towns and cities. So if you live in the Los Angeles area then you're part of our Chapter and we hope you get involved.

My Interests

Clean Water...we protect and restore coastal water quality from the ridges, through our watersheds and out to the nearshore ocean where we surf, swim and recreate.

Beach Access...we promote the right of low-impact, free and open access to the world's waves and beaches for all people.

Beach Preservation...we protect and preserve healthy beaches that are important coastal ecosystems and recreational areas.

Protecting Special Places...we pro-actively conserve, protect, and restore special coastal and ocean places.

I'd like to meet:

It is only through our supporters that the Surfrider Foundation can fight the battles that face our oceans, waves and beaches. When you donate, join or renew your membership, you are helping the Surfrider Foundation confront water pollution, beach access, beach loss and other serious concerns facing your beach.

Surfrider relies on the people who work for it, locally at the chapter level and at the National Office in San Clemente, CA. Almost everyone at Surfrider is a non-paid volunteer, except for fewer than 20 full-time, modestly paid staff members at the National Office.

Surfrider Foundation's unique membership includes ocean enthusiasts of all sorts: Surfers, bodysurfers, bodyboarders, windsurfers, swimmers, divers, beachcombers and ocean-loving families from all walks of life. If you're interested in becoming a member, go to www.surfrider.org/join or call 1-800-743-SURF.

Movies:

Surfrider Foundation's Sea to Summit Video The Sea to Summit video traces the entire hydrological cycle, using a mix of computer generated graphics and filmed footage to illustrate the process as water falls to earth in the form of precipitation, before filtering down through watersheds into urban and agricultural areas and finally flows out to sea, where it is eventually evaporated into the atmosphere to start the entire process over again. Check it out at http://www.surfrider.org/srstore/detail.aspx?CatID=7&id= 39&linkid=PUSH1Surfrider Foundation's multi award winning documentary produced and directed by Michael Graber (Emmy winner) and Diana Schulz. Narrated by Gregory Harrison and pro surfer/ MTV host Peter King, this truly outstanding coastal environmental video is both entertaining and educational. Excellent for the classroom. With Film and Study Guide. Running time: 31 minutes. http://www.surfrider.org/srstore/detail.aspx?CatId=7&id= 38&linkid=dtrl1
