The Surfrider Foundation's Southern California region spans from Santa Barbara south to the San Diego / Mexican border.

SANTA BARBARA
- Working to remove the unpermitted rock wall at Goleta Beach, securing proper public access at Haskells Beach, pushing for no development south of the freeway at Naples, and watching proposed Makar housing development closely.
VENTURA COUNTY
- Continuing the effort to remove Matilija Dam, finish the restoration of Surfer's Point, putting an emphasis on water related activism including watershed management, coastal wetlands restoration, water quality monitoring, and educating political and community leaders.
WEST LA/MALIBU
- Goals include launching a grade school water sampling program called Teach & Test, implementing the new Ocean Friendly Gardens campaign to encourage homeowners and businesses to conserve water use and reduce runoff from their properties, and continue monitoring and acting as needed on local water quality issues at Topanga State Beach, Surfrider Beach (Legacy Park), and more.
SOUTH BAY
- Working with numerous other environmental groups to resolve the issues surrounding the Playa Vista development in the Ballona Wetlands, continuing the in-school Teach & Test water sampling program, and watching and acting as necessary on the Toes Beach proposed development. Looking into 2008, the Chapter will also be working to launch the Ocean Friendly Gardens program.
LONG BEACH
- Continuing the 10+ year campaign to reconfigure the Long Beach Breakwater to improve water quality and bring some gentle rolling waves to Long Beach, successfully launched the Teach & Test program at a local Long Beach high school, and promoting Ocean Friendly Gardens in the region.
HUNTINGTON/SEAL BEACH
- The Chapter is following the statewide issue of Desalination plants being proposed along the CA coastline, including a proposed facility at the AES Power Plant in Huntington Beach. A new partnership is in development wiht Orange County Sanitation District (OCSD) for an educational program and water sampling lab, they are participating in the Butt's Out Campaign, developing an in-school educational program, and the Chapter is promoting Ocean Friendly Gardens in their region.
NEWPORT
- Teach & Test water sampling program, working to map all of the Newport Beach shoreline, participating in the Butt's Out and Rise Above Plastics Campaigns, and developing goals and plans for this year's Kids To Ocean (K20) program to immerse inner-city kids in a fun-filled day of educational and recreational activitites at the beach. Newport also actively supports the Save Trestles campaign.
SOUTH ORANGE COUNTY
- Continues to work non-stop in the effort to Save Trestles, continuing the Blue Water Task Force program at five local high schools, and working to launch a new in-school education program for 2008.
SAN DIEGO
- Supporting the Save Trestles Campaign, continuing efforst on the Rise Above Plastics Campaign, and numerous educational programs including; Hold On To Your Butt, Kids For Clean Water, and Ocean Friendly Gardens.
