I am here for Friends and Networking

About Me

studied in the gent conservatory (classical guitar and experimental composition)
now working at the logos foundation where i write software and compositions for interactive music playing robots that interact with live musicians or dancers. next to that i make electroacoustic music (some people also refer to it as ambient noise - the kind of electronic music without melodies or beats), and i like to mash up the sounds of classical instruments trhough my computer (preferably using open source software, pure data being my favourite).

I'm a vegetarian (for political reasons), anarchist (but don't ask me for a definiton of anarchism - fuck postmodernity), spend too much time behind my computer (although i got tired of programming for programming's sake) and like to come in places where people don't expect to see me.

(Thanx to Jeroen Wijering for his Creative Commons licensed flash mp3 player )

My Interests

lots of different kinds of music (but definitely not all kinds) - grassroots politics - anti-authorianism - anti-copyright and the open source movement - alternative (sustainable) economies - computers (as long as they serve as a creative tool) - ecology - vegetarianism

I'd like to meet:

intelligent and creative people

Music:

in no particular order:
experimental music (whatever that may mean - i find everything that doesn't sound like anything i heard before interesting for at least a couple of minutes) - electroacoustic music - late renaissance music (especially John Dowland) - IDM and microsound - Conlon Nancarrow- Erwin Stache - Autechre - Horst Rickels - Xingu Hill - Giacinto Scelci - Earle Brown - Breackcore - Bong Ra - Ryoji Ikeda - Steve Reich - Yannis Kyriakides - Peter Jacquemyn - The earlier work of Stockhausen - Fransisco Lopez - James Tenney - Duran Duan Duran - KOG theorem - John Cage - Morton Feldman - Venetian Snares - R. Murray Schaffer - Autechre - Phill Niblock - David Tudor - Aaron Spectre - Fennesz - Girolamo Frescobaldi - Alvin Lucier - Sonic Youth - Tom Johnson - Klangkrieg - Jaap Blonk - Bjork - ...

Movies:

I'm not that much into movies (might have to do with my disinterst for stories in general - except when they are about people i know). So i like movies that are not simply stories, like most things by David Lynch, Peter Greenaway, ...
What i do like a lot is old abstract and/or surrealist shortfilms like the ones by Oskar Fischinger, Man Ray, The Whitney brothers, ...

Television:

i'm allergic to it

Books:

Currently reading:
Electronic Civil Disobedience - Critica Art Ensemble- 'Theory and Techniques of Electronic Music' by, Miller Puckete - too many emails and forums

everything by Critical Art Ensemble - 'The Society of the Spectacle' by Guy Debord - 'The Temporary Autonomous Zone, Ontological Anarchy, Poetic Terrorism' by Hakim Bey - 'Le droit à la paresse' - Paul Lafargue...
