Washington City
July 10th
My dearest MySpace friends,
As requested, I present a few points of my life thus far.
I was born in the 13th year of the Reign of George II, the 26th of July Annoq. Domini 1739, in Little Britain in the highlands of Ulster County in the Province of New York. My father, Charles, was an Irish immigrant and a member of Colonial Assembly. It was he who inspired my political interests.
At the age of 18, I enlisted in the King's Army to fight against the French and the Indians. I subsequently studied law, became Clerk of the Court of Common Pleas and served in the State Assembly.
I was elected to the Continental Congress and voted for the Declaration of Independence but was called to serve General Washington as a brigadier general of the militia and had to leave before the signing. I wisely did not support the adoption of the Constitution until the Bill of Rights was added.
I am quite well known for my hatred of Tories and used seizure and sale of Tory estates to help keep taxes down. As a supporter and friend of George Washington, I supplied food to the troops at Valley Forge, rode with Washington to the first Inauguration and gave an impressive dinner to celebrate it.
I served as the first Governor of the State of New York from 1777 to 1795, as a member of the State Assembly in 1800 and 1801, and as the third Governor from 1801 to 1804.
I went on to serve as the fourth Vice President of the United States, first from 1805 to 1809 under Thomas Jefferson, and then from 1809 until the present. I continue to serve as Clerk of Ulster County, a post I have held since the crown ruled the Province.
I was an unwilling candidate for President of the United States in the last election(1808), garnering six electoral votes from a wing of the Republican Party that disapproved of James Madison. I came in third after Madison and Charles Cotesworth Pinckney of the Federalist Party.
I shall write more as time permits.
Your most obedient and humble servant,
