I was born in Huntingdon in 1599, as a strict Puritan with a Cambridge education. I decided that I could best serve England, by representing my family in Parliament. Upon arriving, a natural conservative and possessing a quick-witted Puritanical mentality I quickly made a name for myself. I served in both the Long and Short Parliaments from 1640 to 1660. I was active in abolishing the monarchy, and I was faced with a dillema when the newly reformed Parliament approached me with an offer for Kingship. I declined the offer, but accepted the ceremonial title of "Lord Protector." I was essentially all but a King in name.
