we're back in the land of the living on 24th october, with a fantastic lineup and a fantastic new venue, read all abaaaaaht it...
this re-launch night is a dub extravaganza, featuring the rescored film ‘withnail and irie’, crafted by lookandlisten promoter ineaux. the rescore features all the best dialogue, plus some of the soundtrack, from the original film, alongside a new score of early trojan and studio one reggae and rocksteady classics.
topping the bill is the lauded dj, promoter, tongue in cheek entertainer and all-round dapper dan behind the skylarkin' soundsystem clubnights in oxford and brixton, count skylarkin. an hour in the company of the count guarantees jumpin' jivin' rockin' swingin' reggae, ska, soul, dancehall and rhythm & blues exotica, aching feet and grins all round.
we’re also blessed by the presence of vital av, provider of visuals for the dub heads of the high pressure soundsystem. tonight we’ll be treated to his very own dub centric audio/visual set, a sure fire treat and no mistake.
also on deck duty, we’ve another of the high pressure crew, kommissar, bringing in some 21st century dub’s of a stepping flavour, blended with a choice selection of drum n bass.
joining us on the night with their pretty pictures will also be local vj crew magiclantern and digital donut.
but we’re not done there. as fans of all things technological and art related, the night will also feature projection based installations for the audience to play with, including the amazing tagtool. tagtool is a box of tricks that lets people draw pictures and then move them round on yet another giant screen. it’s virtual graffiti for the digital generation.
the dub extravagenza is on 24th october, from 8pm til late. withnail and irie screens at 8.30. entry is $5 on the door. half price guest lists can be booked by emailing [email protected]
a while back we collaborated with ace visualist liz aigne to stage a night of guerilla films around hyde park. believe the hype, this rocked. so we're doing it all over again on light night, 10th october
