General Interests for Xtine
Here is the "General" Interests/History about me
personally:
DJ'ing occasionally,
either for charity, or professionally.
Promoter and podcaster.I am a nurse and a mom!
I founded an online music label
and promotional group
called Global Peace Grooves
Sept. 12, 2001.
My friend, Anji Bee,
of Lovespirals,
encouraged me to start the label.
She said that my playlists
were so popular at Mp3.com
that maybe I should try it.
I did.
THANKS for the encouragement Anji!
We were pretty successful over there. I still miss the old days over there.
According to rumor,MySpace will have downloads here for pay, and hopefully it will be up to the artists if they want to still allow free music downloads too, so the people without much money can still get original independent music.
I have a broadcasting background.
I'm very supportive of community radio and tv stations and
free weekly news publications.
I also like people who are promoters and publishers.
I'm going to college (yes, even at "this age")to further my skills in life, in art, in communications, in the medical field, in multi-media production, web-design, and someday film and music production in addition to earning a specialized degree in nursing : nurse anesthesiologist.
I am currently trying my hand at podcasting.
I became a music junkie very young. I used to go to dance parties when I was a teenager with a fake id for the M_U_S_I_C. I was a model for hair, alternative lifestyle clothing, and nightclubs back in the day.
These "Old" days I still love to get out there and dance my ass off to dj's and still love to see the alternative/new wave/ electronica bands in addition to
just getting out there as a night owl.
I at least like all forms of music.
My music collection
is pretty huge.
My taste in music has a complete random sense, yet I
still maintain a sense of opinion about 'quality'...
one man's trash is another's treasure and being involved
with playing music myself I find that the 'it's all good' philosophy helps.
The critic has to educate the public;
the artist has to educate the critic.†- Oscar Wilde
I was inspired by friends-
I won't drop names-but I will say that they own
dj companies and labels
and they have million dollar
record collections.
Being surrounded by music
can make a person to become addicted.
I guess there are worse
things to do!
I buy vinyl, cds, downloads,
you name it I get it-
legally.
* I used to go to Napster
when it was illegal
and there wasn't the
legal pay-for-download sites around.
I turned 100% legit over
@ Mp3.com to support artists
full-time,
after I started to make
www.radio playlists.
We gave away the mp3s and earned half a penny sometimes from the 'airplay' and from cd sales. It was hard to earn a buck but we earned a pretty good amount.
I say go for it if you're considering becoming a promoter or dj or putting your music up here... there are fans out there you just have to be patient!
I have my own dj gear including technics turntables and other music gear. I appreciate turntablists but honestly have to say that I've seen all the dj's with Rane Serato and I bought it and have been playing around with it and my cd mixer can loop and change pitch and sample too and I know lots of people who are rocking the ableton and I have a firm policy that music is good period...I don't judge the skills by the tools I just judge the skills period. If I enjoy what I hear then I support it in full. If someone makes music from samples and it sounds good to me then it's good period. If they want to throw down an old school segway without skills but they have a
good set of music that pushes my memory buttons then I'm a fan of that too.
I have played the flute off and on since
I was a kid. I almost joined the symphony twice in my life.
I enjoy helping people out in any way I can with their music, art, event, or other needs.

his web site and you will know what I'm talking about.
I'd like to meet:
All the artists Global Peace Grooves promoted for and played on the internet.
Christine has met many of the "GPG" gang but
there are thousands of you.
I'd also like to met new artists, promoters, dj's,
musicians, a & r reps, label owners, media moguls, illustrators, graphic designers, digital editors, independent film makers, actors, actress',
tv and internet producers, web designers,on air talent, dancers, choreographers,
spiritual gurus, friends who like music as much as me, people who believe peace is possible, people who are trying to make their life better, nice people, some sub-culture types, people who are living in Las Vegas, pet lovers, graphic designers, multi-media students/professionals,photographers, models, people involved with charities, volunteers, people who like fashion, surfers, film fanatics/fans,writers,bloggers,people who like to go clubbing to hear dj's, people who like to go to concerts, people who like comedy, comedians, people in the medical profession, people who enjoy fine dining, people who love to cook, old friends, new friends, YOU!
People from all over our planet Earth!
God, or the Gods, Moses, Jesus, Buddha, Shiva's, Krishna,Mohammad,Guru's, anyone who is living up to their spiritual potential.
People who are open minded are a plus!
If I request to be 'Friends' on MySpace,
it's not to ask anything of you or to 'spam' you with all
my stuff...it's probably out of respect for something you display with your page, your music, your profile, your mannerisms, your artwork etc. I have started to work in graphic design and marketing, I promote for artists & charity events in the Las Vegas community, run a web site, dj occasionally and volunteer. I'm also into art (see slides of art above and below).
circa a.m.
I share a birthday with: Bjork, Goldie Hawn, Marlo Thomas, Harold Ramis, Troy Aikman and Voltaire.(Nov.21st Scorpio/ Sagittarius cusp). I'm a Chinese Monkey (Chinese horoscope comes in 12 year cycles instead of "Western" astrology coming in 12 month cycles). My Moon is in Sagittarius, which helps me to be enthusiastic and hold high principles such as universal love and world peace. I'm honest and tolerant. I can sometimes be blunt, so the process of creating blogs, web pages like on myspace, and art have helped to calm me down and perhaps stop my tendency to blurt out what's on my mind. I have, in the past, hurt people's feelings with blunt honesty. Planning what to say in a constructive way is something that helps me to get along with people.
To all my 2,400 + awesome MySpace friends:THANKS
Cheers to old friends, cheers to new friends &
Cheers to future friends!
I've taken off many of the videos, slideshows, and graphics that
have been slowing down the load time for this page.
The Videos are still located in "My Videos" so have a look if you like.
I love all my friends and
will make every effort to rotate people in the top 40.
I'm only as cool, good looking, talented, courageous, fabulous, awesome, kick ass...etc,
as MY FRIENDS are!
We are the music-makers,
And we are the dreamers of dreams,
Wandering by lone sea-breakers,
And sitting by desolate streams;
World-losers and world-forsakers,
On whom the pale moon gleams:
Yet we are the movers and shakers
Of the world for ever, it seems.
With wonderful deathless ditties
We build up the world's great cities,
And out of a fabulous story
We fashion an empire's glory:
One man with a dream, at pleasure,
Shall go forth and conquer a crown;
And three with a new song's measure
Can trample an empire down.
We, in the ages lying
In the buried past of the earth,
Built Nineveh with our sighing,
And Babel itself with our mirth;
And o'erthrew them with prophesying
To the old of the new world's worth;
For each age is a dream that is dying,
Or one that is coming to birth.
- Arthur O'Shaughnessy

I had the opportunity to catch the world premiere of Mr. Untouchable at CineVegas. Mr. Untouchable is about Leroy 'Nicky' Barnes, the original Heroin kingpin of Harlem. This fine docu-drama sparked my interest in many of the issues the characters in the film brought up. Nicky Barnes has a great love of quoting Niccolo Machiavelli. One quote that was used in the film was "Men ought either to be indulged or utterly destroyed, for if you merely offend them they take vengeance, but if you injure them greatly they are unable to retaliate, so that the injury done to a man ought to be such that vengeance cannot be feared."
The seven members of Barnes' council eventually broke from each other with various amounts of time served in prison. One of the films backers is Damon Dash, former Roc-a-fella executive, Pro-Keds executive, and founder of Block Savvy, a refined spin-off social networking site. Mr. Dash said that he doesn't admire any snitch at all but figures like Nicky Barnes and what events that took place in Harlem with Barnes as a leader helped to shape the 'swagger' of most residents of Harlem. Nicky Barnes was the first black man to run an enterprise completely independent of mafia of any other type of ethnic group. Mr. Untouchable is expected to be in theatres nationwide in October of 2007.
Rick Shipley Filmmaker here in Nevada. Recently produced "Dangerous Mode" rocabilly film.
Underground Miami an independent film about DJ culture and nightlife in Miami.
Wayne Gerard Trotman is a director, producer, film score composer and more. His company Red Moon Productions Ltd. has created "Ashes To Ashes", Britain's First Kung Fu film. Awesome!

Dave Hawks and Mac Hale filmed
'Switch Killer', a slasher horror
flick with an
'alternative' theme
in the Las Vegas club

which is now
named Empire,
other cool 'indie'
films like Thirteen as well.
White Chicks,
Dumb & Dumber
and other so
called 'stupid' films
are cool w/ me too.
I have watched
'Dirty Love' with
Jenny McCarthy and
Carmen Electra and
enjoyed it.
I really can't
stand pretentiousness.
I believe there
are some movies
that are just created
for pleasure and a laugh!
In sharp contrast
to my feelings that
movies shouldn't
be taken too
seriously, I also
feel that documentaries
such as
Teen Truth
are
projects that I
find hard to ignore.
Also, I loved
the film
Rory O'Shea
Was Here (docu-drama),
Chernobyl Heart (documentary)
and An Inconvenient Truth.
I love watching the travel channel.TV is a "love/ hate" type of thing...
paying over $100 per month to watch the same
old stuff seems a bit masochistic
but we do admit to owning tv's in every room and
still watching all the same old same old (lol).

I read King of Methlehem by Mark Lindquist this year.
I highly recommend it.
I'm currently reading "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas" by Hunter S. Thompson.
I have read "Eat, Pray, Love" by Elizabeth Gilbert. I learned a lot about Italy, India and the Indonesian island nation of Bali. About finding yourself. Finding a word that describes you. I liked Elizabeth Gilbert's explaination about people who live on the outskirts of town and the village of contemplation. In-betweener people called Antevasins. Living in-sight of both worlds as a scholar. A person who can help connect people from different areas. I also enjoyed a phrase from The Bhagavad Gita that Ms. Gilbert paraphrased in the book; it is better to live your own destiny imperfectly than to live an imitation of somebody else's life with perfection. I recommend this book!
When I had my second child I was friends with a teacher who was also a writer. She had told me that she had an unfufilled sense of accomplishment after being married for a long time and almost completely raising her two children so she left the kids with her soon to be ex-husband to live in India. She said she lived in an Ashram. She worked her way to earn her way back home from being there without money. She started out her life in India by living in an Ashram, with no money or personal possessions. She worked for others, ran her own business, and eventually came back to live in the states. She said living in India gave her skills to live on her own. It gave her perspective about how even the most harsh ghettos of the states couldn't compare to the poverty she witnessed in certain places in India. That the spiritual enlightenment she earned was priceless.
She told me,while pregnant with my second child, during lunch one day that someone once told her that a mother is left with only what she gives to herself while she's raising her children. That raising kids selflessly thinking the children will give back to their mother after they're grown the same selfless way will leave the woman frustrated.
Children grow up to live their lives and will never be able to give back what their mother gave away while raising them. So with that piece of advice I have made sure that my life has been one of a spiritual and self-nourishing journey while raising children the best way I can. (Betty,my friend who said that, THANKS).

I believe that
media is not dead,- magazines are more plentiful than ever, same goes for independent music, the old establishment of the major film, media, publishing companies & tv production is thriving worldwide, the film and dvd industry are doing stellar business, the www. is growing by leaps and bounds, people are reading print in multiple dimensions- it's all across the tv screens with scrolls and pop-ups people are text savvy and I have noticed that people are HUNGRY for info. and media. It seems to be all about acquisition of media, games (the video game market is $50 Bill. annually these days), dvds, cd's, downloads etc. more than ever!

Dan O'Hara. Dan O'Hara was a honorary member of U.S Congress. He won The Humanitarian Award from The Vatican.
He ran a charity out of his home for over 20 years. He wheelchaired across the United States in his push wheelchair. He wheelchaired 1,400 miles down the Mississippi River in a wheelchair-powered boat. He built the first wheelchair accessible park in the State of California. (I could say more here, but it could be as long as a book).Dan O'Hara was like a father to me. He was one of my patients. I was one of his caregivers until his death. I miss him very much! His mission was to inspire
other people who were physically and/ or mentally challenged to get out there and do something!
His charity work was diverse: he had parties for children who were challenged or were struggling with life threatening illness'. He had recreation events for kids. He also helped poor people, homeless people, and juveniles who were in detention facilities.
Christine admires chefs, comedians, artists, musicians and other theater folk.
Christine thinks that common heroes are the simple 'goodie goodie' types, such as people who are kind, polite, open-minded,
peacemakers, volunteers, military personnel, fire fighters, police, medical personnel and decent politicians.
"You can't judge a person by their title"
...many police are doing a great job and aren't paid enough or thanked enough (imho).
Military people usually hate the dark and deadly stuff they do.(who would like to do that kind of thing?)
Many times the military are out there helping people. I don't forget that!
Fire fighters are heroes every day of their lives.

"One is enough
One glance
is enough to capture a heart
One touch
is enough to hold a life
One word
is enough to stop hate
One kiss
is enough to find what was lost
One gesture
is enough to give faith to another
One day
is enough to change our world forever
One person
is enough to help mankind
One flower
is enough to color our souls
One whisper
is enough to raise the voices of hundreds
One is enough"Brianna Margarita Marroquin

My heroes are many, as somewhat described above.
DJ Light
of The Ultrasonics.
His faith comes out in his fine music, he's a great friend and his wife and child are delightful!
Lynn Carey Saylor , for her suport of other artists in addition to her fantastic career. She holds the candle to the good causes and walks the walk and talks the talk.
KayKay , a friend here on MySpace, because she supports others, she loves music enough to put up with the promoters, djs, artists, and other folk found here on MySpace just to find good music to listen to.
Being a damn good mommy definitely qualifies her to be a hero in my book.
Micah Lukasewich qualifies because he's a dj who plays music that he personally has had some kind of artistic touch on.
His music is original and contiunes to evolve to higher standards. Even though Micah's music is not as popular as
the top ten djs in the world, it has risen to the quality and caliber of the top ten artists productions imho. He started his own record label recently. Micah has been my friend for almost 6 years now.
Micah's going on a European tour this summer. He's been remixing other artists like a mad-man. Micah is now an official Global Underground Artist (since fall of 2006).
He's got dj sets on Hybridized
and Proton www Radio as well.
Anji Bee , for her tireless support of other artists.
She is a dj, a live performer, a recording artist and a bad ass friend of mine, FOREVER!
J-Punch , for his music, which is the best music in the world. J-Punch, for his participation in the Balance Record Pool. J-Punch for his residency in the clubs.
J-Punch for being one of the coolest persons on Planet Rock.
DJ RESET , for getting three of his Mash-ups on two labels.
DJ Reset, for bringing fans of rock and hip hop together.
DJ Reset because he's always been there as a friend...even
when I've been sick.
DJ Lalka , for his spirit. He's really the best fan of music.
He spins other peoples music so that it has a life all it's own. DJ LALKA is such a bright ray of light. Him and his girlfriend Gina are some of the best people to talk about music with, to listen to music with, to go and hear music with. I'm so grateful that they now live in Las Vegas.
They should be cloned.DJ John Peel
For various reasons such as playing an eclectic
array of music. Having the guts to play music that was
banned. Inspiring fans of music and musicians alike on an international basis.
More Heroes to be added to this list and why and links to their profile pages as well....
