-ZENMONK-

I started out in 1986, mixing music at local block parties located in various areas of New York City. Freestyle and Old School Hip Hop were kings back then. However, just as I was getting into the groove of the emerging House music scene, I enlisted in the United States Navy in 1988 and began to travel extensively throughout the world. I made it a point to visit night clubs and parties throughout my many port of calls throughout Southeast Asia, the Middle East and Europe.
In 1991, after suffering a injury during Operation Desert Storm, I returned to New York City and took up the decks once again as a means of supporting myself while attending university.
I found work among the many people I would meet throughout my day to day life in the early 90s. I coupled my love of mixing music with my love of dancing and would often participate in the raves that were thrown in NYC back then. Mixing music and dancing were my most ultimate forms of expression.
In 1995, I began to travel extensively throughout the United States and Europe, for my day job as Technology Consultant for a large consulting firm. During this period, I concentrated on producing and remixing music available to me. And on it went, until 2005, where I began focusing on mixing music full time; Vinyl, CDs, Ableton on a Mac Laptop – I have progressed to the point where I use all three mediums to get my message across.
What is this message? I love music and only want to share it with like minded people.
I have had many names throughout the years (to protect my identity on the internet) but have settled into the name, zenmonk, due in part because of my practice of Zen and my roots within the Buddha-Dharma. At various times, my taste in music reflects this practice and is able to convey what I cannot express with words.
I am now broadcasting my show on iTunes . The podcast is called Yab Yum, which will be a mix of various forms of House and Techno music from an eclectic range of producers and will be updated on a month to month basis.
