Three men, Fourteen strings....

About Me

Returning from a storming and sometimes stormy summer the weirdstring boys are back and they're taking no prisoners... Cos we got nowhere to keep them, and don't really bear any grudges either. Their musical force had been sharpened by impressive festival appearances up and down the country. Armed with three instruments, which normally bear fourteen strings and a remarkable amout of beer they have caused musical mayhem to the point of having at least two crowd surfers at an acoustic and totally unamplified gig. Sights such as James playing the double bass above his head, and on the ground, Wal leading dances round muddy fields and Paddy getting through entitre gigs without breaking strings have amazed audiences from Scotland to Somerset, and quite a few places in between. So, for your enjoyment we bring you - - The Weirdstring band ************************************************************ ******. . ... Three men, fourteen strings and a whole lot of Weirdness..The Wierdstring Band, a wholly intriguing mixture of fiddle, double bass and the Acoustic guitar, among others. We bring you songs and tunes from the wide ranging genres of folk, ska, gypsy swing, heavy rock, and pop. Including iconoclastic classics to contemporary original material. Expect amazement, confoundment, exhilaration, dancing and sitting down. Come and experience the Wierdstring band. ------********-------- They met in the mint mines of Old Kendal, seeking a flame strong enough to inflame the semi-mythical Whitbarrow Cigar. Further reconnistance into the Cheese seams of Wensleydale let them to farther flung fields and they chose to not to follow their previous enthusiasm for Astrology, the Black arts and animal husbandry, deciding instead to follow the Muse. The Muse, however, had other plans and a much faster car. But our boys had skill, enthusiasm and a very curious dog with great big legs, and eventually the Muse admitted defeat. The pursuit finished, the boys returned to the task of working out what to do, now that they had foresworn witchcraft and their novelty telescope. It was with some surprise, then, that they turned their manifold attentions to the face of Music. Music, of course, succumbed readily, and the results can be heard at every turn; first tender, then sprightly, now melancholy, and moving stealthily through energetic dance discourses to the place where all music naturally concludes: drunken abandon. - - - - - - ------ The wierdstring band, Naturally found lurking round festivals late into the morning. Available for parties, weddings, Ceilidhs and other unspellable events..**************************************************** **********And now - with a grand flirtation with modern technology you should now be able to buy our CD - 'Live at the Tiny Pye' just by clicking on the button below!! My Interests

Music:

Band Website: wierdstring.co.uk
Band Members:Featuring: Wal Weird (Fiddle) Weird Paddy (Guitar) and JB The Furry Weird one (Bass)The band has a combined age of three hundred years. Admittedly, this does encompass the age of all of their instruments, but none the less this age, experience and (dare we say it?) maturity is reflected in the scope of their music, the wealth of their knowledge, and their peculiar addiction to Murray Mints.
Influences: The Wierdstring Band, a wholly intriguing (and completely unexpected) mixture of fiddle, double bass and the Acoustic guitar, bring you all of those elements and, just for good measure, chuck in some more bits of falk, gypsy swung, heavy rick, skoo, home-fired treasures and flar-flung flotsam, and jetson. The main influence seems to be beer, and laughing. Think of the last time you laughed uncontrollably, then try to play an instrument at the same time.
Sounds Like: If you've ever wondered what it's like to hear modern rock and disco classics played wrong with a big dollop of traditional folk and choral music thrown in you'll still be a bit confused... If you know what it sounds like tell me. Really, do tell us if you've any better ideas... Some quotes from our fans...... 'Nice people but odd'.... 'Great if you like that sort of thing'..... 'I don't remember it quite like that'...... 'Vaugely familiar!'. 'Intimidatingly Funny', Please tell us more.. or give us beer and we'll play music for you.
