About Me

............................................................ ....................................................... ........ Anni spends most of her days singing (& writing songs) in some capacity or another, she teaches singing, facilitates community choirs, "Vocal Noshes", & workshops on singing, harmony & songwriting at various festivals & gatherings. Anni performs with a very varied group of musicians & singers (not all at the same time) spanning a number of quite seperate genres. Blues, celtic, jazz, a'capella, contemporary folk & generally acoustic, she loves to bend what she is singing to an original style whether it be covers or original material (she writes prolifically, though only a small number of songs make it to the public arena generally).Described as versatile, passionate & evocative, Anni uses her voice to explore, express & expand the sensations & essential sentiment of the songs she sings. Anni has a real passion for harmony almost as if it were the langauge she was born to, & in some ways it has been a part of her life since she was a wee lass.It took a lot of convincing & time to get over nerves before Anni began performing but quite quickly after initial folk clubs & cafe exposure in the late 80's she began the festival circuit including Port Fairy, Maldon, Nat. Celtic festivals among others, quite regularly back then, there was a very quiet period of time (career persuing/baby raising) before she returned to singing, undertaking both a Music Diploma & a commitment to (& consistant training in) leading community singing groups & inspiring others to sing in whatever capacity possible. Most important to Anni is the sense of "sharing" music, not having ever desired to be a "star", rather she revels in the interaction & pure joy of combining & playing with more than one musical expression, whether that includes instruments or a'capella, she has expressed this as more than a pleasure, it is almost a "need", & is probably one of the contributing factors in the wide range of musical styles she feels comfortable adding her voice to. There are very few musical genres she is willing to close the door on these days, if they are generously thrown her way she is willing to explore & can normally find some wonderful element to connect with.Reflecting this very sentiment is the CD she began work on early in 2007 (it was supposed to be a live recording of a concert including many of her wonderful musical collaborators, the concert went ahead, but not the recording since there had been a recent family trauma)... As the year progressed she was encouraged to put her songs on CD anyway. Not straying far from a very "live" style, though in a studio. Since there was a lot of material which is quite disparate, she is now looking at 2 CDs! One with a relatively Jazzy feel & a more bluesy/folky style with a smattering of celtic as well, these should be beginning to wind up in late 2007, early 2008.

Sometimes I sing on my own, but I mostly love singing with other people. I have the joy of being joined by some extraordinary & wonderful, talented artists, these change from time to time depending on who's overseas or recording or having passionate affair with someone in some other town, but in the last year (2007) the most consistant collaborations (many of whom have supported me on my CDs - soon to be available).. Just a little inside info - many of my musical cohorts contain the letters "a n d" in their names a strange & completely irrelevant triviality, though it is why I am naming one of my CDs "Anni... and .. and ... and" soooooooooo: Adrian Kosky - velvety laid backvocals, gorgeous loose string plucking (hmm loose as in style not pitch or anything!!!), Dulcimer, Acoustic Guitar, Mandolin.Damian Neil - warm & fluid vocals, extraordinary picking & strumming that sends anyone with half a musical nouse to heaven (or hell if you are prone to envy I expect!), & even a little fiddle playing (on St Cecilia).Andy Rigby - wonderfully accomplished harper (ah those skillful plucks & strums!!!), able to leap tall genre's in a single bound & the occassional lovely deep warble also.Dean Meldrum - a musical batchellor if ever I came across one, though I managed to borrow his wonderful & untamable guitar skills for the CD & ocassional performances. Jazzy, rhythmic & unique.. & possibly a first (?) I even captured a couple of vocal mumblings in the background of "Touch the edges of freedom""Contraband Women" - Absorbed Anni into the vocal blending fold several years ago, at the moment mostly its just 4 very vocal lasses, from around here (Castlemaine & Daylesford) - Miriam Kerin, Josephine Bodno, Jacinta Walsh & Anni Coyne... we have a lot of fun & sing A LOT, surprise, surprise."Sweet Justice" - this is the Community choir I facilitate (for the last 5 or 6 years), not so much about performing as about having a great time, this group of women consists of a wonderful mixtrue of people from Daylesford & surrounds, the numbers wax & wane as does our public exposure & the projects we take on, but it's always great fun & they are a truly fantastic bunch of human beings.
