"I'm simply leaning on faith and singing my truth"

About Me

Jannae Jordan’s talents surpass the sole title of being a Singer. Born and raised in Queens NY, Jannae has been writing, hearing melodies and singing for as long as she can remember. For her the stage is home, her mic and pen are her best friends and the rest of the world is just there for inspiration. As child Jannae’s talents were hard to deny. As to not have them go to waste her parents enrolled her in the Children’s Performing Arts program at Double Image Theater, where she studied dance and theater. As a teenager Jannae studied classical voice and performed off Broadway, competed in statewide talent competitions and instructed an introduction to drama class for inner city kids in Harlem. By the time Jannae graduated from High School she had sung in some of New York’s most respected cabaret venues (Sweet Waters, The Ballroom, Don’t Tell Mama’s…), and was sure of one thing and one thing only, that standing at the microphone was the singular most comfortable place in the world for her.

Jannae went on to attend The Fashion Institute of Technology and obtain a degree in Advertising & Marketing. Her theory was that if she was going to seriously pursue a career in entertainment she needed to know how every facet of it worked from the image and fashion to public relations, radio and journalism, all of which she tried first hand on and off campus to make sure she understood how everything worked. Although content in her 7 th Avenue world as a published freelance writer and stylist, due to a twist of fate, she looked up one day and found herself sitting behind a desk with a title and the pressures of a Corporate gig at the World Trade Center as an Information Technology Project Manager. Music had become non-existent in her life. Around the same time she was introduced to the Underground dance music scene otherwise known as House. It was meeting DJ/Producer, Boyd Jarvis, that proved to be the turning point, as she puts it “Boyd gave me a voice on the scene, and he shared a lot of wisdom and advice, including putting the notion into my head that one day I could probably produce my own records”. Although their project remains unreleased, it was that collaboration that began her career as a Recording Artist. After the tragedy of 9-11, Jannae opted to pick up the pieces and go back to what she loved, her music and words. Since 2002, Jannae has recorded several records (see Discography) all of which she wrote and arranged the vocals for. She sites the influence and mentoring in recent years of people such as DJ/Producers David Camacho and Freddy Turner, as the reason why she is doing what she does now the way she does it, with no hold back.

Jannae is currently the voice of the global Net Radio phenomenon PrePartyRadio.com. She is also working on developing her own projects under the moniker of JX3 Music, her newly established Publishing/ Production Co. “I’m honored every time I’m invited to participate in a project. However, I don’t want to get stuck in a box, only participating in other people’s visions. I want and need to devise and execute my own. I’ve got some wicked ideas of my own for myself in dance music and beyond. Only I know what I can really do because only I know how I really can and want to get down…” While she toils away in her studio fleshing out her own ideas, she is beyond over the moon about collaborating with some amazing talents based both in the UK (Stereo Mutants,Deepologists, Afterlife, Dephunk...) and US (Louie "Lou" Gorbea) on a number of projects for 2007 release.

To date Jannae's voice has been called everything from strong and soul shattering to sexy and sultry. Words such as classic and moving have described her lyrics. No matter the style Jannae is fearless on the microphone. Whether she writes about love, good times, Gods grace and many blessings or everyday ups and downs, her songs effectively encompass the varied elements of life and human behavior that make good songs much like living so interesting.

My Interests

Music:

Band Members: Me,Myself, I & GOD!
Influences: My Mom and Dad; they showed me that there is/was a much larger world beyond what was right in front of me. They instilled a love for the Arts and knowledge in my psyche at a young age and nurtured my desire to do everything my heart desired creatively. Their vast music and book collections were the playground that my imagination reveled in. My husband, as he shares his record collection with me, everytime I troll through them I come across tunes both old and new that open my eyes and ears to new things. All the singers, songwriters and producers who ever wrote, and or sang a song that made me either want to cry, dance, think or fall in love. The soundtrack of my life is volumes deep. Music is in my heart and soul. From the sanctuary to the stages of Broadway, every recording studio I've ever been in, every talented person I've been in the presence of and learned from. I'm influenced by the die hard dancers on the dancefloor of every club I've ever stepped in to. All of it and so much more innfluences what I do because it all speaks to me. Art is a true testimony to life. The 2 are 1 for me. Where there is music there is life, where there is life there is love. So I guess my ultimate influence is LOVE.
Sounds Like:

Right now, I guess it sounds like me doing House music...

Anyhoo...this spot is my online music lab. A workshop if you will. All Lab works showcased here are works in progress. Some are scratch 1 take vocals that kinda stuck and serve as the basis for something more. Some songs are things that are in pre production , while others are in production and what's in here are the first drafts made available for feedback (All my DJs, Producers, Vocalists and Club Heads, feel free to hit me with your feedback, for me that is the point of this profile, as well as putting myself out there for you all to get a better idea of who I am and what I'm about).

What's a House track today may get twisted over night and morph into a rock ballad. I'm not rigid or closed to the possibilities of where a song can go, ya never know...you FEEL. As far as House music, I lean more towards SOULFUL House, tempo is a matter of the vibe not a preference for me. So some things may be a lil progressive while others may be more standard or mellow even. Basically this is where I let my ideas, words and voice do what I want them to do. In here it's just me doing what I love.

I know this is a tad bit wordy but HELLO, I'm a writer! And in the spirit of knowing that most of us who profile hop Artist to Artist are Artists; I will close with this...if you sell your soul for a few coins and some shine, in the end you will find yourself empty. But if you feed your soul, and nurture your passions and do it for the love of it, even if for no coins and no shine... you will always be full and satisfied and all the more humble and gracious when your time center stage comes. When you think no one hears your voice, KNOW that you are being heard by the one who counts. Lean on faith and it WILL all fall into place as it should.

Enjoy & God Bless,
Jannae:
