As much as I always have to say, I am searching for the right words. Here goes....Repping the south side of the Chi. Give much praise and honor to the most high. Halleluah! Second-born to Virgil and Stephanie Gray. Started out as an outspoken kid who had to grow up fighting to make it through...Grew into a fiesty woman with much opinion and attitude. I'm righteous though! Independent, analytical, spirited, sensual, compassionate, and intense are the immediate adjectives that come to mind when I give my character serious thought. Funny, a lot of us are bombarded with other folks' opinions and views of ourselves, it can be challenging to hear your own thoughts.
Sorry... I can go off like that. I'm back. Okay more about me. Favorite color is Purple. Love watching good movies with real black folks portraying real black folk. When I grow up I want to be a great movie producer...currently working on my first indie documentary. Wish me luck.
If I could do one thing all day and get paid for it (or not)reading would be it. Hands down! Can't wait to go to Africa. Never knew a love like the love I share with my hubby/best friend/baby daddy/favorite dj/favorite date/keeper/protector/balance. Never knew love could get better than the aforementioned till i gave birth to my babies.
Some of my friends think I'm a nationalist... I am not. I don't know what I am. I just know I hate oppression and have to work on not hating the oppressors of the world. I take my responsibility of saving the babies seriously, yours, mine, hers, and theirs.
I strongly believe music heals...and kills. What are you listening to?I'm coming to understand that judgement is the worst enemy of communication. My biggest flaw is that I hold people to certain standards that I impose on them without their permission or knowledge. It is unfair and the reason why I feel disappointed most of the time. Oh yeah, my other flaw is that I talk too much, or maybe its not how much I say, but what I say. I speak my mind. Some people can't handle what I have on my mind. I'm learning to keep it on my mind and not voice every damn thing. It's hard. But what can I say...I'm either loved or hated. Don't know too many who think of me in the gray area.. But my creator loves me. I'm happy with that:)
Professionally, I have been the executive producer for midday programming of a talk radio station here in Chicago. While there, I wore about five hats. My strongest talent/skill is writing. I love the art of communicating through written form, whether it be enterprising news, feature, cultural, or lifestyle articles, social commentary, press releases, bios, newsletter and/or brochure content, it's like second nature. In a perfect world, all the above experience would mesh into a very fulfilling, well compensated, flexible, and progressive opportunity.
In my personal leisure time, writing still consumes me. I've been writing my first novel for a while now, (too embarassed to say how long) and periodically I write from my heart, some call it poetry. Subsequently I produced a poetry open mic night at the Cotton Club a few years back. Chairman Fred came thru and blew the spot out! Since then I've come to love him like a brother and have mad love for Mama Akua who is always there for me. Blaq Dawn, Jun June and couple other scribes from Chi came to that event. It was a huge success.
As long as I can read and write...all else in the world is highly achievable. As long as I breathe and have a voice, I consider the world my domain. Now I'm off to conquer...
I entered a contest, Please Vote for me Today....

I'd like to meet:

I believe every spirit attracts those of likeness and those that are different, all for the good of forwarding, directing, blessing, and analyzing ones purpose. We all will meet those the creator places on our path to give him recognition beyond all mortal desires. I want to meet whomever the creator sends on my path. What Emotion Are You?
You are Beauty. You are beautiful, whether it be on the inside, the outside, or both. People are drawn to you as strongly as you are drawn to the beauty in the world around you.

Music:

I appreciate music...PERIOD. I grew up surrounded by music, mostly the soulful sounds of Motown (anybody that was from that era), Patti sang to my spirit before I knew what that meant, but I remember getting goosebumps when she sang and I wanted to cry. Nobody hardly ever gives Shirley Murdock her props, but I was 9yrs. old singing the Sh*! out of "As We Lay" Stacy Lattisaw (did I spell that right?), Jackson 5, Debarge, Switch, Heatwave, Atlantic Starr, Gap Band, Hall and Oates, Earth Wind and Fire, Isley Brothers, Luther Vandross, Shalimar, Denise Williams, Rick James, Angela Winbush, Anita Baker, Aretha Franklin, WHITNEY HOUSTON ( I wanted to be Whitney until I was 16) New Edition (I was in looove w/Ralph and Ronnie) Boyz II Men is my favorite group EVER! I saw them in concert twice, and ohh, THE WATER! My girls know what I'm talking about.
Today I'm vibin off Jill Scott, India Arie, Goapele, Dwele, Anthony Hamilton, Jaguar Wright, Ameil Larrieux, Floetry, The Roots, Nas, Dead Prez, SB (Chicago talent bout to blow up...y'all ain't ready), Always and forever Tupac, LBoogie,Outkast, Tribe Called Quest, Brandy, BDP, KRS1, GURU, PE, Slick Rick, Queen Latifah, MC Lyte, Yo Yo, Lil Kim, Kindred, Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, Capleton, Buju Banton, Barrington Levy, Patra, Eightball and MJG, Crucial Conflict, Common, Kanye West, Natasha Beding(whatever her name is, I like her music) Nirvana, Rascall Flatts, Kenny G, Patsy Cline, Reba McIntyre, Alanis Morrisette, John Mayer... and a whole bunch more. I married a DJ so I could hear music for the rest of my life. I just hope music saves itself from these fools abusing her.

Movies:

All time favorite The Color Purple. Cooley High. Claudine. Bridges of Madison County. Friday. Soulfood. Rosewood. Boyz in Da Hood. Pretty Woman. Beauty and the Beast. Grease. Let's Give Em Something to Talk About (anything starring Julia Roberts) Boomerang. Crooklyn and all of Spike's Joints...except for She Hate Me... I hated it! Oh yeah.. Walking on Sunshine, written, directed and produced by my best friend Tracy Taylor. She won the very first BET RAPP It Up Film competition. It's her first film, check on it!

Cool Slideshows!

Television:

Nothing will ever have the impact of The Cosby Show. I'm very nostalgic about tv because there is very little of substance on the tube these days. I'm feeling Grey's Anatomy! Reruns of Soulfood sustain me as well. Everybody Hates Chris rocks! I guess I have to hurry up and get my script together and head out to L.A. for that pitch meeting with the execs... TV needs to be saved.

Books:

The Color Purple. Beloved. Song of Solomon. I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings. Singin' Swingin' and Gettin Merry Like Christmas (and anything Maya Angelou has ever penned). Up Above My Head. If Beale Street Could Talk (all of James Baldwin) Leaving Atlanta. The Dew Breaker (and everything from Edwidge Danticat). Babylon Sisters. I Wish I had a Red Dress (all Pearl Cleage) Singing In the Comeback Choir. Leaving Cecil Street (all Cynthia McKinney Whetstone). Their Eyes Were Watching God. Wrapped In Rainbows: the biography of Zora Neale Hurston. Saving Our Sons. Afeni Shakur: Evolution of a Revoltuonary. I read every chance I get and Creative writing was my minor so I could go on and on...
