About Me

Maurice A. Dwyer is an award winning filmmaker that originally hails from Mt. Vernon, NY. He attended film school at Temple University in Philadelphia. Upon graduation, Maurice moved back to New York and began working in various capacities on as many films as he could. Having worked on some of the most memorable films of the 90's including, “Clockers” and “Above the Rim”, he then expanded his career path to include acting.

He began performing on the New York Stage in such plays as “Raisin in the Sun” and “The Colored Museum”. His big break in television came when he was cast in a major role in CBS’s “Now and Again”. His episode went on to be considered for an Emmy nomination.
In 2000, he eventually fell back into his first love - Directing. Success in the directing world came with his award winning short film "Whoa", an urban opera about a man who happened to be at the wrong place at the wrong time. The film was a hit at Sundance and continued to tour festivals across the world winning various awards. The success of “Whoa” also secured his spot Chrysler Million Dollar Filmmaker Challenge at the Cannes Film Festival. Subsequently, he was selected to participate in the 2003 Fox Searchlab Program.
Several short films and projects followed including “In Time”, another Sundance selection that was also selected as a finalist in ABFF's HBO short film competition. “In Time” is currently airing on Cinemax and HBO. Never one to rest on his laurels, Maurice continues to conquer the film world as the next big thing. He is currently writing his first feature film and is embarking upon another challenge, directing for TV. Mr. Dwyer is definitely a director on the move.
