Rocking a party with infectious beats and getting his audience to the dance floor is what drives DJ B-Syde when he€™s turning tables in the club or at wedding receptions, birthday bashes, family reunions and the infamous house party. It€™s only natural since entertaining with music has been a pastime for generations in DJ B-Syde€™s family. From the Jamaican bred sound blaster skills of his dad to an uncle of early Earth Wind and Fire fame to cousins with steady gigs in bands for artists like R. Kelly, Najee and Art Porter, playing his role in the music game has always been B-Syde€™s ambitious dream.A native of Chicago, B-Syde grew up surrounded by €œdusties,€? the sounds of Reggae, and classic Motown as well as the city€™s own Minnie Ripperton, Chi-Lites, Chaka Khan KoKo Taylor, Tyrone Davis and Lou Rawls. Of course, nobody can claim Chi-Town without claiming House music, which remains a huge influential genre in Chicago. B-Syde was a loyal fan of WBMX and programs on WKKC like €œFriday Night Audio.€? He followed disc jockeys such as Pink House, Steve Silk Hurley, Farley Jackmaster Funk, and Frankie Knuckles faithfully. All of the musical diversity left room for B-Syde to fall in love with yet another musical genre. Born in Chi-Town around the same time as the east coast€™s Hip Hop, B-Syde kept his radio tuned in to local Chicago stations like, WHPX to get his dose of dope bass lines, raw lyrics and passionate emcees. In high school when wanna-be rappers and emcees kicked a verse it was DJ B-Syde who they told to €˜give me a beat.€™ His innate ability to hear the music in his head and create a banging beat for those with the gift to rock a mic prompted B-Syde and high school buddies to form a rap group, GBA (Guilty By Assoication). To get their music heard GBA performed at talent shows and, before it became a money earning trend, the group distributed mixtapes where B-Syde was the producer and DJ. His dynamic scratches and innovative mixes would become his signature style.B-Syde€™s natural gift and love for music was enhanced through his experience at Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. There he studied music and video production and went on to receive his Bachelor of Arts in Radio-Television Communications. While at SIUC, B-Syde garnered his first paid gigs as DJ for Frat/Sorority parties and the overall student body. With an impressive inventory of equipment, many emcees from campus made their way to B-Syde for cold tracks. He always delivered.Returning back home to Chicago, he upped his game building an impressive studio with audio recording booth and equipment including Technic turn tables, Roland XP60, MPC 2000, CDJ 800, and later investing and mastering digital equipment such as Cake Walk and Protools. The Hip Hop game was evolving and B-Syde made sure he stayed on top. His flawless mixes and effects on mixtapes had listeners jamming and requesting more. From the old school to the new, upon hearing a DJ B-Syde mix, the performance bookings have exploded.Being able to realize his dream is truly touching for B-Syde. He has enjoyed his concert performances with artists like SB and Twone Gabz. The club dates, college circuit, and the adulation of hearing his mixtapes playing in a passing car is simply music to his ears. Get Your Own! | View Slideshow
