LAS DALIAS IS IBIZA'S ONLY TRUE CONCERT HALL AND OLDEST VENUE...
IT HAS AN INTERIOR AREA WITH A CAPACITY FOR SOME 450 SOULS AND
A BEAUTIFUL GARDEN AREA FOR SOME 500, AS WELL AS AN OUTDOOR BACK AREA FOR LARGE GIGS UP TO ABOUT 2000 PEOPLE....WE'VE BEEN ROCKING THE ISLAND WITH LIVE ACTS SINCE 1954!!!!!...................................................
.................................................
On the 4th of November, 1954, Las Dalias threw it's opening party bigtime...Local peasants stormed in for a proper shindig and to guzzle down all there was (some 6000 drinks)...The place remained the Soddom and Gomorrah of Ibiza North for years, as the local parish priest started projecting cinema to attempt to drag his flock back to his church and away from the sins of the flesh that had become so popular in Las Dalias' dancehall... Flamenco dancers were brought in to entertain the early tourists of the 60s and by the 70s, hippies started throwing jam sessions in the garden after their local market day...In the 80s, upon passing on command within the family that own the venue, to a younger and more vital Juanito Mari, Las Dalias started it's own hippy market that has now become the
most prominent one on the island, with about 20.000 people passing through on summer Saturdays. Studios Mediterraneo were built in San Juan and bands doing albums there, would throw blowout gigs after the long and often tedious recording sessions...
The 80s saw the likes of Nina Hagen, Sham 69, Judas Priest, members of UB40 as well as all the big Spanish Heavy Metal bands of the day (Obus, Sangre Azul, Panther, Banzai, Baron Rojo, etc) on the stage of the main
hall. Amongst the members of the audience, you could find Ron Wood, Jimmy Page, Brian May, Mike Oldfield, Bob Geldof...etc and then some!
After the Studios burnt down, quiet times befell Las Dalias till the
arrival in 1997 of yours truly, Chris Gonzalez (check my profile if you're curious).
In-house productions of musical tribute shows celebrating the great
icons of Rock (Lennon, Bowie, Police, Harrison, Marley, Pink Floyd, etc) became massive get-togethers for local and visiting musicians...Several bigtime Spanish Pop stars & bands played the venue (Carlos Segarra,
Nacho Garcia Vega, Coque Malla, Loquillo, Bulldog, Nel.lo & Banda del
Zoco, Vargas Blues Band, etc) as well as some international figures like
Paul Collins, Lee Rocker or Mandalay, The Kings of Convenience or even Nina Hagen, who returned leaving the black leather at home to sing
Mantras, these last three within the bounderies of the Namaste party, a chilled Hippy event still celebrated on Wednesdays to this day...The past couple of years the addition of Prem Joshua has added to their musical family and ours...............................................
Early yet for all the summer news but a few things can be let yawling
out
of the bag ............................................................
................
The opening of the Garden will be on May 29th,also Juanito's birthday
(owner of Las Dalias). No program closed yet but it wil be grand.......................................................
................................. Wednesdays will be Namasté as the past 9 summers with many
extremely interesting ethno acts including Prem Joshua who will be
back in the fold
once more........................................................
........................
Thursdays are "Love Generation", our Flower Power party with vintage
tunes from the 60s, 70s & 80s. The newest addition will be theme nights
with tribute concerts on repertoires of the greats like Marley, Pink Floyd, Lennon, Dylan, etc. These concerts, an old tradition of the house became
so popular a few years ago, that they resulted in the City Hall giving us a John Lennon Street in town. All sorts of invited guests will be dropping in
to play some standards on Thursdays...................................................
....................... Fridays, as had been the case last year, is Paco Fernández in the Garden, this year surrounded by an art exhibition of Ibiza's finest......................................................
....................................... There are other events to be announced...Keep posted for more info over the next few days........................................................

The songs you hear are from the album "Las Dalias - Feeling Ibiza", released in 2001, co-produced with Lenny Ibizarre and with the
participation of many musicians who have played on our stages. ................................................This year a new album will be coming out with further adventures of the musicians of Las Dalias. The album "Las Dalias - Acoustic Ibiza" will hit the shops (yes!! in Ibiza there
are still CD shops!!) by beginning of June no later. To accompany the changes on the island (clubs will now be closing for 10 & 1/2 hours each
day! Party-goers will now actually sleep between sessions and hopefully become a bit more chilled - the island will surely appreciate it) this year
we have taken "the road less travelled" these days and decided to scrap "tracks" in favour of "songs". The amount of swill that has
inundated the market over the past few years has aided the decay
of music sales in Ibiza. Endless bar collections have created apathy in
the environment, especially when most tracks are made to order
(overnight in many cases) for the greater glory of PC mavens who
have discovered loops and samplers and decided to be producers
(like children who decide to become firefighters). Las Dalias will be
releasing
on Paco Fernández's label "Too Much" and has an impressive
succession
of tunes by the likes of Cathy Battistessa, Nervous, Denis Stern, Mati Gonzalez, Lee Harris, Free Peoples, Javier Vargas and even Paco
himself. Many of the musicians involved are the frecuent occupants
of our stages... but in any case, even those who aren't, are still
actually musicians and
not plugins......KEEP POSTED FOR FURTHER INFO THROUGHOUT THE SUMMER....THIS YEAR WILL ROCK!!!!
