This Myspace is a protest against Pay To Play gigs in Glasgow! I have been performing music for most of my teenage years and have been a victim of promoters and venues using Pay To Play as a way of exploiting my (and other performer's) musical talent for commercial and financial gain.
Pay to Play is when an act is booked to play a gig and is informed that they must submit a certain fee (whether it be through ticket sales or if they have to bring "a certain number of people") in order to play a gig. I believe that we, as musicians, are providing a service, entertainment and musical enjoyment for the general public and are therefore entitled to ask for a fee when performing for a promoter. WE SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY A PROMOTER TO PLAY A GIG!
Anyone is capable of booking a venue, booking bands, asking the acts to arrange ALL the equipment, asking them to bring a certain number of people, telling them to sell X amounts of tickets, maybe pay the bands a small fee and keep the rest of the money to further this act of selfishness!
For years these people have exploited musicians, now it is time for us to exploit them! Please feel free to post comments on this page, expressing your opinions and informing other musicians of problems you have had with promoters.
We Have a new Forum now so that everyone can go and discuss experiences etc!
STOP PAY TO PLAY FORUM
PAY TO PLAY PROMOTERS ARE THEIVES! They have been quick to judge acts all over Glasgow and exploit them, why shouldn't you do the same to them?
HELP GLASGOW MUSIC....... STOP PAY TO PLAY!
