Ricky Fentone and the Flat Top Cats Tribute site

Ricky Fentone and The Flat Top Cats were formed in 1990 when Shawn Harvey (a.k.a Ricky Fentone) and Silke Harvey (a.k.a Little Lena) met and formed a duo. The Pair gigged around the Cardiff area...various live venues like Gassy Jacks in the Hayes and Fingers Nightclub.A Regular music haunt was the Splott music shop where the Rock 'n' Roll Pair used to get their equipment! Long before the "White Stripes" they did a Rock 'n' Roll Duo...Shawn on Guitar and Silke on Bass guitar. Her first being a columbus Precision copy,Many amps followed from classic musicman head amps to W.E.M. In 1992 Shawn and silke were doing local Hospital Radio in Aberdare and met the Drummer Alan Nott...he wa also beinga local D.J. Practising in a small back room of a miners cottage they got together their unique Rock 'n' Roll sound! In 1993 they did their first gig at Ynsboeth in the valleys of Wales. A few band vans followed that were as colourfull as the group...and their first photo shoot and videos were filmed on the brecon beacons! Many local newspaper articles followed and a good fan base around wales...the group ventured out into somerset and London on several occasions. The first Album "Night Of Passion" was recorded in 1995 in the same studio as the Manic street preachers in Blackwood Gwent. Recorded live...Shawn had his wem dominator amp miked in the nearby Toilet! Their second album "Dont Knock me, Dont rock me!" was recorded at Hirwaun y.m.c.a where a young Stereophonics were also recording...the group brushed shoulders often and Staurt cable lived near Shawn. The third album saw "Cadillac Man" become more popular and much more local Newspapers and fans! The first website of the band were in 1994!So they were quite net ready! Major mp3 sites followed and the group enjoyed no1s all over the globe! 1997 saw the last album "Ricky Rocks and Ricky Rolls" a 26 track double rock n roll classic become sadly their last together! Still freinds to this day....Shawn is now solo and enjoying even more success...recording his last album with the great Albert Lee and produced by Boz Boorer and John David ...the first being Morriseys main man! The old recordings are currently Being re issued on The kissy music Label...so their original Rock n Roll won't be Forgotten! Long live the Flat tops! No title
