About Me

“Get used to me!” bellows from the speakers as he makes his performances, to the delight of the excited crowds. Who is this Rasta who makes the women scream and the men salute? Jah Warri is his name and he hails from the fertile hills, bright sunshine, and world famous streets of Jamaica. With his distinctive sound and high energy stage shows he is poised to burst onto the Reggae scene with dynamic effect. Born, Cleve Minto, on August 13, 1973 he was the sixth child of fourteen children of Teletia White(Sista Bibbs). Sista Bibbs raised Jah Warri and his siblings after his father, Melton Minto, died at an early age from an alleged poisoning. Melton Minto was a business man and pioneer in Jamaica who gave his children the admonition to set themselves apart from the crowd. And his son learned this and many lessons from his father’s short life. Jah Warri’s father was one of the first Rasta’s to be seen in Montego Bay during a time Rastafarians faced horrific persecution. In spite of the world wide popularity of Reggae music Rastafarians continue to face ridicule. Jah Warri touches on this topic with his popular tune, “Dust in Their Eyes”. His music is his life and is based on reality. His family is well known in Montego Bay, his hometown, and his music is flavored by the people and life experiences found there. One listen to his up tempo tune, “Road Weh Mi Walk” a colorful picture is drawn of hard knocks and the people who endure and overcome them.Jah Warri is a gifted artist who rides dancehall rhythms as easily as he glides over roots and culture sounds. His musical style is versatile and lively creating a lasting impact. Firmly grounded in the Rastafari lifestyle, Jah Warri’s music carries an upfull message for people everywhere. His earliest experiences with a strong mother gives him a unique understanding and admiration for women which presents in his music. His thoughtful song, “The Kingdom is Judged by the Queen” perfectly illustrates his point of view. But he is both lover and lyrical warrior uniting the youth in the tune, “Call the Warrior Dem”. Jah Warri teams up with vocalist and writer, Sista Cassie, on some of his music maintaining the balance of man and woman. He is quickly gaining popularity in California where fans often request the humorous tune, “Riding Around”. The Reggae world should brace itself in anticipation for this artist and the “edutainment” he brings. It is his songs in this genre that pour from the speakers and fill the soul and mind. At every performance the audience can be heard to say, “We want more Jah Warri!” And we should all prepare ourselves for the many great songs and performances from his upcoming album, “Release the Chain”.
