About Me

| About me: Lovin' life! Hangin' on, ain't nothin' but the blues. Native Texan, born in Marshall. Lived in Corpus Christi a long time! Plays harmonica. First professional band was Full Strut,'73-'74,in Santa Barbara. That band featured Joe Carrillo,Alan Drettler, Mike Goldberg,John Chaney and myself.Played blues, rock. Worked and played at Fergie's, a legendary blues bar there. Kim Wilson's band at the time, Blue Midnight, was the house band till he moved on to bigger and better things! I was very fortunate to see a lot of top blues players during that period! At Fergie's we played with Luther Tucker, Pee Wee Craytonand Bob Hite of Canned Heat. I played with Steve Perry, later to be with Journey, at a party in Santa Barbara in 1974. In Corpus Christi I have played with Mike Cross,Silent Slim and the Locomotives featuring Michael O'Connor, Bobby Medina, Marty Martinez, Franz Schlievert, Hollwywood Bob Hinckley,Antone Perez,Brian McKay,Rich Segura, and Rich Kinney at various times. Now fronting Dicky Neely Blues Band. Writing professionally since '84. First published in '64.Drawing since childhood, painting some, computer art in recent years. Surfed over 30 years, started in Port Aransas, Texas in 1965. First surfed in California in the 60's, including the great swell of Dec. '69. Lived in Santa Barbara most of the seventies.Surfed in Northern Cal, and Washington. Surfed Mexico from Baja to Puerto Escondido and on Vancouver Island, British Columbia a few times in the seventies. Windsurfed over 15 years, mostly in windy Corpus Christi. Windsurfed in California, New Mexico, Arizona and Nevada also.
