The Blue Monsters, The Second Order

Just tell me what key we’re in

About Me

The Second Order is our new album. We started out blue but then we moved into something wonderful. That's what happen's when everything is new. I'm from Canada and Eric is from Chicago and we are both living in Finland. As a two part, just harmonica and guitar, songwriting works pretty well. Mostly I write the lyrics and Eric does the music, but the words to "Keeping it Simple" and "View from the Road" were by Eric, and they're beautiful. I think the stuff I write is darker, drawn from places like India and Nepal sometimes. But wherever I ran I found I couldn't run from myself. I have issues to work out. Thats why I write. And about the writing: The blues is not politically correct. How can it be when someone is unemployed and drunk. As Blind Lemon Jefferson says "I'm Broke and I'm hungry, ragged and dirty, too. If I clean myself up, babe, can I come home with you?" That's the cry of the blues....Peace and Love, Paul Bourgeois

Conversations With Monsters - A Musical Interlude
Paul Bourgeois and David Andrews

All Along the Watchtower - A video beginning

This is a video that Paul Bourgeois, who does film and animation as well as harp and vocals, made for David Andrews. This is David's song "I Go Down":
Influences: Paul Bourgeois: "Vocally I catch as catch can. I figure I can’t sound like Elvis but if I make the attempt I will sound better than I normally do. I like John Popper on the harmonica. He just bebops all over the place." Eric Schwandt: "I don’t play a lot of lead, so most influences come on the rhythm side of things from an eclectic group of players: Paul Weller, Ian Moore, Ty Tabor, Billy Corgan, Jack White, and Duane Allman for slide."
Sounds Like: We are just harmonica, voice and guitar now. I don’t think we sound like anyone else, but we probably do.

Social Protest = Blues = Neo-Folk

The blues, like folk music, is a form of social criticism and social protest. To be genuine it has to come from people who suffer. Well, I suppose, it all depends on who you are and what you want.I'...
