About Me

It all happened by chance. The idea was to arrange a live set at home, using the equipment available, with Ibiza in mind. It was a sort of domestic rave, organised in an attempt to liven up a grey winter evening. Everything was recorded, although part of it would later turn out to be inaudible or just crazy after all, the only rule of the game was the complete freedom to play. The positive outcome of the event brought about more sessions, which also involved pop-oriented pixie Luca Urbani, who later converted to dance music after a sudden illumination on the dancefloor of the Amnesia club in Ibiza. Matteo Agosti, on the other hand, was in charge of refining the recorded material.A few songs came out of it, as did the intention to perform them in a live set based on improvisation and digital re-elaboration. The two called themselves Deleyva firstly because Teo lives on the very street that bears the real name of the Nun of Monza in Alessandro Manzonis The Betrothed (Marianna De Leyva), and secondly because the sound of this name is a sort of tribute to 70s disco music. After the first experiments in electronic anarchy, the sound and the dynamics were refined and Deleyva present live set, which is heavily techno and hard-house oriented, has been recently enhanced by the presence of a percussionist and a funk guitarist. Although the project is focused on the live dimension, Deleyvas collaborations with DJ Monier and JL allowed the duo to record and release the 12 vinyl single Happy Spacemen and the CD single Amiamoci.Luca and Teo started collaborating many years ago. Luca Urbani used to be the singer of Soerba, an electro-pop band that became famous with the single I Am Happy in 1999. Luca released three albums with the band (Playback, 1998: La Vittoria Dei Cattivi, 2001; Beside, 2002), the last two being produced by Matteo Agosti and himself. He also collaborated with several artists (Alice, Bluvertigo, Garbo and Mao) as a writer. Teo has played guitar in several pop-rock bands and together with Luca, he produced Garbo's single Migliaia Di Rose as well as other remixes. All the brit-voices of the project were made by James Murphy, an english teacher from Bristol that lived in the same "deleyva" building.
