In the last few years the Ohio music scene has expanded greatly, ushering in all types of new bands and sounds. Of course, growth brings all the trends, fads, copycats, and the scene police. One band has been a mainstay in political punk rock for the last five years, and that band is Overated. Putting blood, sweat, tears, and anger into all their shows, they've spread their message and sound across the Midwest on their own terms. This controversial band has dedicated their music to showing people that their not the only ones who feel cheated and used, and that we can work together to take our lives back and challenge the oppresive nature of society. Overated has not only left an impression through their message, but with their fast and intense live shows. Their shows reflect the hardcore punk atmosphere of the eighties, filled with moshing, stage diving, and group chants. All in all, their intense live shows and passionate political views helps keep their fan base growing.
In 2000, Jeffzilla (guitarist) and Ryan Rotisserie (drummer) decided to finally put together a band. Theyve been best friends since the third grade, and always shared the same passion for punk music. With little experience, theyd jam every weekend in Ryan Rotisserie's basement, attempting to make music that they could be proud of. With practice grew a sound, a sound heavily influenced by bands such as NOFX, Anti-Flag, Bad Religion, and Propagandhi. With many attempts to create bands, Jeff and Ryan realized that many people just werent into punk rock in small-town Ohio.
In the winter of 2001 they met Steph D. (bassist, lead vocals) at a local show. With Steph D's interest in old school punk and bass, they immediately latched onto her and added her into the band. They found out that not only did she shred on the bass, but that her voice completed the bands sound. After adopting the name Overated, they began to write music. Their common disdain for war, Bush, the religious right, and neo-conservative ideology came through in their lyrics, and decided that their passion was in change. After their first show in a crappy run down bar, they decided that they would put their heart and soul into the band.Since then, Overated has made great strides as band. They released first demo in 2002 and a live CD in 2004. With fans wanting their new songs recorded, Overated hit the studio in the summer of 2005 and recorded their first full length entitled Ties That Bind. Since then, they have seen a great increase in their local ohio fan bases in places such as Columbus, Cleveland, and Cincinnati. They've brought their hard hitting shows to large venues such as Newport Music Hall, Germain Ampitheatre, Riverbend Music Center, and countless others. They have also found much sucess through the Vans Warped Tour, playing select dates two years in a row. After sucessful regional tours under their belt, they plan on hitting the road longer and harder in the summers to come. With the DIY punk attitude, they plan on doing what they do best for a very long time; Playing loud, playing hard, and maybe pissing a few people off on the way! Please visit their Purevolume account for MORE songs!
